So how are these rewards for the Chusingura KS? That's a lot of stuff... and the base game is only $15

>>
>>15087566
I don't give a shit about chuuni.
>>
>>15087577
Then why would you care about Seinarukana?
>>
>>15087583
Because I liked Aselia.
>>
>>15087589
You know they're both chuuni as fuck, right?
>>
>>15087595
I people are overapplying this "chuuni" label for VNs if you start calling Aselia chuuni. At that point you might as well label anything where people shout out attack names as chuuni. That's like 50% of JRPGs.
>>
>>15087595
Yeah, but I don't really care. I liked it for what it was. It being chuuni or not makes no difference to me.
>>
>>15087604
It's a game where the protagonist is the reincarnation of the god of destruction and struggles against his inner darkness while contracting to the anti-life goddess to defeat the creator goddess of a multiverse who sealed them both away for being too powerful.

You're fucking retarded.
>>
>>15087613
... so it's like half of JRPG stories then?

Reminder that SP release of maitetsu is confirmed to be all ages by the game's writer.
>>
>>15087617
You have no idea what chuuni means, do you?
>>
>>15087623
Sure, but I don't like this recent trend of applying that term to VNs as if it were a legitimate classification.
>>
>>15087629
So you're going to bitch about it when it's applied totally correctly to a VN that is the epitome of chuuni.

Makes sense.

Still Bundles. One interesting note though, is that Haruka's been right up behind the bundles popularitywise this entire time, only losing the immediate spot behind them to tokyobabel for one week during it officially going on sale, and the new AJtilley game this week. Seems like it's still getting a trickle of sales a month later.

Exact same price (well, not really, considering regional pricing) but MangaGamer gets a bigger cut of it.

>>15087882
I know but if VNs keep selling better on Steam then on their website it means they will try to bring more VNs to steam and that leads to more censoring. So I rather just buy it from their website directly.

Typical overconfident gaijin.
>>
>>15087978
Not really, because there's a big difference between the sexual content of Gahkthun and most other eroge.

>>
>>15087981
>N-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-not really! *sweats profusely*
>>
>>15087984
That's no mystery. The gaijin who thinks he can read Japanese with his text hooker isn't actually any good at reading it. That post in >>15087955 is basically fanfiction.
>>
>>15087984
It's also an 8.5 on vndb and it sure wasn't voted that way for its pretty art. Plus it's a VN that's never talked about in English circles so it's not like there's some EOP fanbase brigading it highly in hype
>>
>>15087886
That's not true. MangaGamer is not like Sekai Project. They will avoid censoring wherever possible. They make a point of selecting VNs for Steam that don't need to be censored. Whatever though, what matters is that you purchased the game, so good on you.
>>
>>15087989
>It's also an 8.5 on vndb
Lol, that's absolutely meaningless.

>>15087988
Whatever EOP pal, you'll see when you play it. Make me a promise, once you play it and see it's tedious crap you'll admit how fucking clueless shitter you were, 'kay?
>>
>>15087999
How insecure are you to throw around EOP like that, gaijin pig? All the burgers going to your head? I played it already. That's how I know you are full of shit.
>>
>>15087999
So both EGS and vndb ratings for it are useless because you say it's bad? A VN that doesn't have much presence in the English community isn't going to have a distorted vndb score anyway.
>>
>>15087978
What happens with Bokuten is much more important. While the Liarsoft games got through, they are quite mild by eroge standards and since both got through uncut it doesn't help establish exactly where the line is except beyond where conventional wisdom had put it. Bokuten will need some editing, and Mangagamer appears like they plan to figure out exactly what that limit is, so it should give us a hard look at exactly what Steam finds acceptable at the moment.
>>
>>15088005
No more needs to be said, just remember what I told you.

>>15088004
Cool delusion. Just remember this when you play it and see how it is.

>>
>>15088011
While that would be ideal, it seems likely that Steam wouldn't want to open that Pandora's Box yet. Steam could likely easily justify including Bokuten with an ESRB AO rating (and could easily add EF, which already has an AO rating, right after it), but afterwards they would either need to create a platform wide policy dealing with such titles on an case by case basis, or deal with a bunch of short OELVN nukige titles that would show up soon after.

I find it very concerning. The shipping on Samurai, Head Page, Chief Retainer and Arms Commissioner will be insane, and adding the production costs of the goods the total costs will significantly exceed the tier values. They cannot reasonably make money off of this.

So the question is this: Is JAPAN CONTENT willing to pay this much for a glorified marketing campaign, or are backers going to be faced with a 'sorry, we ran out of kickstarter money'?

>>15087791
We're getting Steam keys for Gahkthun? I figured the whole Steam key thing was entirely off the table after the credit card fraud thing, but it would be cool if we still got them for the stuff bought before that.
>>
>>15087619
No.
>>
>>15087955
Chusingura is popular because it is basically MLA in feudal Japan (multiple time loops + highly animated action scenes based on sprites jumping around). I don't see why is it so surprising. What is weird however is the fact that instead of advertising it as such they're bullshiting about moe samurai girls. It really shows how they perceive english market as interested only in moeshit.
>>
>>15088062
Those nukige would need to get greenlit first. They would have plenty of time to prepare. Besides, Steam has Zombie Zoeds. Quality obviously isn't an issue here.
>>
>>15088147
How did it get so popular with such awful art? Actually, wait, I guess that applies to Muv-Luv too. What the fuck is up with Japan?
>>
>>15088147
>What is weird however is the fact that instead of advertising it as such they're bullshiting about moe samurai girls.

Maybe they want to play a prank on EO...nglish Readers? But that would be pointless now. They probably just want the Steam audience that liked "epic anime girls like in Nekopara".
>>
>>15088086
>We're getting Steam keys for Gahkthun? I figured the whole Steam key thing was entirely off the table after the credit card fraud thing, but it would be cool if we still got them for the stuff bought before that.

The reason it's okay in this case is BECAUSE it's only for people who already bought the game. Won't have to deal with fraud here because it's all for confirmed purchases.
>>
>>15088162
The art isn't at all always that relevant for a VN to be popular. Look at the american cartoons like Family Guy; is ugly as fuck but it's popular.

It was originally a doujin vn released in chapters and the artstyle improves further on. It is quite alright in fandisc. But H-scenes look absolutely disgusting all the time. All-Ages steam release would be an actual inprovement in this case.
>>
>>15088174

Yes, exactly. The fraud issue was because people were targeting games with steam keys to make illegitimate purchases and harvest the keys. If a game didn't have keys previously or there was no expectation of keys (because it wasn't on Steam yet) there's no reason the fraudsters would have targeted it.

And to answer another question from earlier, the keys aren't out yet because... it's the weekend in Japan now and I may have forgotten to remind the person with the keys that we needed to get that sorted out on Thursday (Friday in Japan). Oops.
>>
>>15088190
Speak for yourslef, I've seen worse H scenes (like the ones from Demonbane) but this don't mean that it's better cut them and encourage more censorship.
>>
Is it really true that there won't be voice acting in Chushingura or did someone just make that up to try and sabotage it?
>>
>>15088200
We need to stop throwing around the word "censorship" like this. What they're doing is making changes to improve the story - writing the VN the way it was MEANT to be written instead of shoehorned sex scenes to pander to horny otaku. Not every cut exists to make the game worse. In fact, many make it better.

You can check reviews on EGS yourself, nobody denies that last two chapters of original game were complete shit, with cheap and lame way to wrap up everything while ruining all ideas that were presented in previous chapters. I'm pretty sure that when you guys see these fucking skeletons popping out of nowhere and Big Bad being revealed, you will agree with me.
Sure it had some cool scenes here and there, but in the end they didn't even matter, you cannot just rate it 10/10 for mmmmuh bushido and yamato spirit.
>>
>>15088446

>>
>>15088459
Basically boils down to "1-3 were so good that 4-5 being shit doesn't matter for me" in every review.

Lose contacted several localization companies before maitetsu release, looking for prompt overseas release on steam, expecting to be next nekopara. dovac was the only one who agreed to their terms, he didn't even need to "sell" them anything.

Having made the post, I disagree.

People are just in general illiterate and put their own twist on things. My post is just talking about how Gahkthun separates itself from for example Clannad in that it boosts the tolerance of adult content on Steam. That value is very important for all of us who want less censorship. In the future people will say "Oh so having sex is OK on steam, then maybe we don't have to censor these panties".

Meanwhile it seems like some choose to read value as "reason to buy", rather than my intended "the benefits of people buying it".

Have you looked well enough?

>Past tense in the whole thing.
Except in Japanese it's not. Overall the English feels super stiff in the video.

>The moon was shining bright.
Why not just "full moon"? Then follow with the next sentence and it flows well.

>concrete building was enshrined
This is 鎮座 put into Google Translate. You'll get "enshrined". Of course "enshrined" isn't anything you say about a school building. In reality the second meaning from the dictionary applies in this case.
https://kotobank.jp/word/鎮座-569939
The translator should have stopped upon seeing "enshrined" describing a school building, realizing something is amiss and use a Japanese dictionary.

>Yaesaka Academy
First, 県立 = "prefectural" is omitted from the translation. Also, from the video you can see they're using the original 1997 release of Atlach-Nacha (version 1.05). In the original release it's a high-school, not academy. This was later censored in the 2000 re-release (version 1.10). When translating from original, they should preserve the brash open immorality. It's one of the things people like about Atlach-Nacha after all.

>one of many identical schools
ありふれた isn't "identical". "Identical" implies the schools everywhere are built exactly the same. That's not the case, ありふれた just says there's nothing special about this one.

>This is a good spot. It looks fun.
A school isn't "a spot". "Place" is more like it. "It looks fun" sounds weird when a previous line extablishes it's a bland-looking school. But more importantly it's wrong. 楽しめそう refers to Hatsune's actions. "I can enjoy myself here". This also solves the weirdness, cause it isn't weird for Hatsune to say she'll enjoy her stay at a bland school, if anything it forebodes the depravities to come.

>And this territory
A "territory" is "an area of land under the jurisdiction of a ruler or state". That's not what Hatsune talks about here. She simply talks about the place. "And this land..." works better and is a better translation for 土地 too.

>the night air
Why is ぬるい omitted?

Um, unifying the tenses (either to past or to present) is pretty much the first thing you learn when translating from Japanese into English.

Most other points seem more or less legit, though I don't get why'd you want to keep prefectural when it doesn't mean anything in English.

I'm glad you managed to figure out what prefectures are, but that doesn't change the fact that calling a school prefectural doesn't mean anything in English.

Unless you care to explain how prefectural schools are different from public schools.
>>
>>15093232
"Prefectural" in English means "established and governed by the local prefectue [in Japan]".

If you ever come to Japan, you'll see various institutions have prefixed that describe who established and governs them.
私立
村立
市立
県立
国立
etc.

This is all relevant information conveyed in Japanese that goes beyond just private vs. public.

3 - Go into the pop up menu on the left of the game's window and click "menu" then "text settings".
4 - Check the box "Insert spaces between words" on and hit "Save" at the top left.

Probably want to turn on "hentai translation" and turn off EDICT as well so you don't get VNR trying to parse english over the text. Probably also change the font type too. Seems VNR thinks the english in the game's engine is japanese so it uses a rough japanese font with english characters instead of a softer looking one like the default DFGirl for english. That might just be the engine in general though. I would figure that would fall under 1's stuff. Just stuff you figure out fiddling around with in preferences.

Your first two points can be ignored. Japanese tenses are very fluid, and your point about the moon is a question of style.

3rd, 4th, 5th points looks valid.

Half of your 6th point could be ignored. A school can be a 'spot' depending on context, and you'd know that if you knew the meaning of 'spot'. The other half is valid.

7th point - Land is almost as bad as territory. If you're talking about a small area, go with 'area' or 'place',

8th point is valid.

"Spot" feels like it describes a smaller, more specific place. The storage room in the back of the school where Kanako gets raped is a spot. But yeah, it depends on the percieved scale. If Hatsune looked at the city map and pointed to the school on it, "spot" would feel okay. But that's what happens in the game.

土地 is "land" though. And the feelings of nostalgia Hatsune speaks of are often connected to the nuance of "clay" you can see in 土地. "Area" would be fine, "place" not, cause "place" now means the school and Hatsune that slept for ages isn't nostalgic about the school.

SP had to pull out all the stops to get Root Double to reach that. Frontwing with no built in audience isn't going to have the reach to get 140k for a game anyone familiar with has already played. And Sharin no Kuni doesn't have the same status as Muv Luv.

Yeah, I don't think anyone expects it to do anywhere close to Muv Luv numbers, however it will reach it's goal from name recognition alone. Root Double might be a great game, but it's Kickstarter was poorly done and poorly advertised, and isn't nearly as well known enough to give it a strong base without that.
>>
>>15096505
Considering that this Kickstarter is only distributing what they call the "deluxe" version, it seems to be sheer business stupidity to bring up how they plan to screw over future Steam users with DLC created by taking apart the game in the future now.

People not interested in loli will assume that's what it's about and avoid it, while people interested in loli know there's no ero, so they'll most likely just pass on it. It's not about the actual content of the game. Hard to break misconceptions, which is why Tokyo Babel isn't selling well.

Holy shit, I thought that was a joke about DLC CG galleries. They're seriously planning to have the CG gallery as DLC.
>>
>>15098808
Additionally, release quality of the game itself aside, the higher tiers are good enough to get contributions from collector types who have already played the fanTL.
>>
>>15099024
Yeah, best part is it doesn't actually affect the Kickstarter release, only the Steam release down the road, they just came out with it now to do nothing but piss people off.
>>
>>15098999
While I'm not denying the greed (DLC galleries, really?) nor will I be backing, 140k is tiny in the grand scheme of things. I mean that's what, a years wages for 4-5 staff? How many people and how much time does it take to pull off a successful kickstarter with rewards? I'm not sure FW/Akabei would actually end up with much profit after it's all said and done. Plus, after rewards they'll only really get to use 2/3rds of the funds so it's worse than that. It's amazing to me companies can make things work on such low budgets.
>>
>>15099024
DLC is very easy to pirate if you have the base game on steam
>>
>>15099182
A lot of that 140k is going towards fulfilling rewards anyway.
>>
>>15099187
Something that's in every VN and in the JP version of the game shouldn't need to be pirated.
It's completely asinine that they're doing this.
>>
>>15099195
I completely agree, I just thought it was something worth pointing out. I would never buy this VN in the first place because of it.
>>
>>15099182
>I mean that's what, a years wages for 4-5 staff?

You're kidding yourself if you think it's not just going to be contract translators. Way the math works out it looks like 5cpc. Guess FW hasn't figured out they can jew translators yet.
>>
Kickstarters are just pure profit. You have one guy who writes stuff on a kickstarter page, and then you get thousands of dollars. Meanwhile a normal company would just translate the games and put them up for sale.

It is kind of interesting that they are pricing the game at 20 dollars. Though I bet there is value in getting cash before delivering a product, as well as skipping the 30% steam fee and 10% new release discount.
>>
>>15099481
>It is kind of interesting that they are pricing the game at 20 dollars. Though I bet there is value in getting cash before delivering a product, as well as skipping the 30% steam fee and 10% new release discount.

Between splitting up the game for Steam and the low price, pretty sure Frontwing just took the lesson about cheap titles selling ridiculously well on Stream and figured it applied everywhere. That or it is to prepare for a cheapish Steam release without having backers yell at them with "why did I pay more on Kickstarter".
>>
Sekai Project's Q&A is tonight, sure they'll have fun coming up with non-answers considering half the questions in their thread for it are asking about the 18+ version of the titles they've licensed.
>>
>>15099400
I meant that even if 100% of the 140k is profit, it's really not that much overall. I guess Japanese devs have learned to create on a shoestring budget like anime studios have.
>>
>>15099653
Don't forget that this is just for creating it. They get extra for selling afterward.

>>15100040

>>
>>15100040

The guy that looks like he's dying
>>
>>15099653
Well, it's basically pure profit. It's already translated so they don't really need to do any work, it'll probably take more effort for them to port some of the all-ages release stuff and gut out the gallery than it will be for them to do anything else. And then sales generated beyond this will be pure profit as well since I doubt the translator will get a cut of each sale.
It's basically an easy way for them to make some money on the side, and if it fails they don't lose anything since they don't even need to pretend to be editing the fan TL until after the campaign ends. But yeah, their fund goal is pretty low, that's barely more than my annual salary.

Missed the beginning and a couple short segments

Root Double - "we're working on it, it's complicated, updates soon"
No G-Senjou 18+ - Blame Akabei Soft2, they've asked with no luck
WagaHigh - Seems there should be a 18+ version if I heard correctly
Chrono Clock - about 10% done, had engine problems
Need lots of approval for Frontwing stuff
Tenshin Ranman - 16% done, 18+ maybe
Gradually loosening Steam restrictions, Steam was initially concerned about Sakura Spirit, now not so much
G-Senjou voice + unvoiced release, blame Akabei Soft2, they rather not do that, though it probably help ship units

Gahkthun managed to hit about half the peak concurrent users of tokyo babel before the steam keys went out. Given it probably has about 700 or so mangagamer sales, I wonder which one is ahead at this point. Seems like it'd be a pretty close running.

There are doujins and hentai for that, and I can seek out stuff that tailors my tastes better. I don't read VN for h-scenes.
>>
>>15102111
That was one of two posts summarizing the stream of the Q&A, not an expectation that anything will come out of it. They answer the question at 12:40 in the stream and they answer that they'll have news at AX and they are "just working out the logistics" and the intent is to "bring it over at best they can". Even if they are lying through their teeth, that quick summary was an accurate representation of the answer they gave.
>>
>>15102244
I'd expect one of the more mainstream console localization companies to end up with F/SN eventually.
>>
>>15102438
I can see Xseed actually attempting it, but they wouldn't bother unless sales are guaranteed. The script is so large that they'd need to invest quite a lot of time into the translation, and I think Takajun's TL is notorious enough to where if a real publisher ever picked up the rights for the Vita version they'd want to do a retranslation.
Fate is one VN that is guaranteed to sell quite well if it ever gets licensed, but it's still a daunting undertaking for many Western publishers, even the ones that have a record of translating otomege. Possibly if Extella sells well, or around its release, then we'll see something about Fate from a regular console publisher.
>>
>>15102456
I really want to see Fate get an actual retranslation by someone with skill
>>
>>15102456
It's very unlikely.
>>
>>15102250
I don't enjoy H-scenes either, but they are part of the story. Removing it is like removing the bad ends "because people don't enjoy them".

If I can sit through a "you got killed" ending, I sure can sit through a "you love a girl" mid sequence. I'm not part of the establishment that try and push violence and death as the norm, while sexuality is obscure and rare.
>>
>>15102508
I don't think it's likely, either. Fate is such a big title that if anyone was interested in grabbing it they would have done so already. But it'd still be nice.
>>
>>15102423
At this point I completely lost any hope to see SP actually give a shit about the VN culture so far and can only think negative things about their statements. Not to mention their staff doesn't inspire any confidence in me.

I'll only believe something they say when I actually see it with my own eyes.
>>
>>15103207
SP doesn't care about 4chan VN culture. While VNs are a niche, the people who complain about SP are still a vocal minority. They'll have people buying their games no matter how much this audience dislikes them.
>>
>>15103269
Of course they still make money. The point is that they keep making less money than they could. A lot of companies don't understand this basic math.

You could say they always have the choice of 500 or 600 sold products. 600 requires customer support. 500 is just ignoring everyone and living on the least caring people.

Not that guy but people fully fluent would just look it up in a JP dictionary if they came across a term they didn't know, exactly the same as their native tongue.
