Ozmafia's seated itself upon the charts with unusual gusto for an all-ages steam dual release, particularly given that there will be no steam keys. Certainly a rather stark contrast with Tokyo Babel, which charted for all of a day before sinking into the abyss.

In the land of hardcopies, quite a few titles have suddenly begun to show a quantity remaining. Perhaps stock has been raided for the upcoming cons?

Except for Aroduc because he's freelance and lazy or fuwanovel shitty projects, what's left ? Nothing.

Ixrec is dead, Beast's Lair translators are dead, Ate the moon is dead, Yandere is dead, TLwiki is dead or working official, Lemnisca is working official, koestl is working official and the /haniho/ translators are working for MG.

Recently, the only groups who did some fantl are Koichoco by Basic Translations which was pretty bad and now they seems to be dead and the Koisuru Natsu no Last Resort translation, seems to be dead too.

There is also the Yosuga no Sora translator, slow but still alive.

>>
It's a good thing that fan TL is dead.
Shitty ESL people won't be encouraged to start a TL and people who are actually qualified to translate will be hired and paid. The only problem is now things take more time for quality (or no reason bc jast) and that titles to choose are narrower. Fan TLs were shit anyway so this is better in the long run.
It's funny there's actually people out there thinking the fan TL scene dying is a bad thing because they can't get shit for "free" anymore. "Why won't these people spend 500 hours of free time for paidless work anymore!?!?"
>>
>>14948896
>people who are actually qualified to translate will be hired and paid

Are you sure? Granted I'm not sure about Mangagamer and other VN sellers, but their neighbors at Crunchyroll hire any faggot to translate anime. Recently more and more anime is getting absolutely terrible translations with mistakes that only a beginner or someone without any care in the world could do. Makes me feel like I'm overqualified when I can easily point out those mistakes myself.
>>
>>14948896
You can easily get even official shit for free
>>
>>14948933
Then why the fuck did everybody complain about subahibi?
They were all going to pirate the game and patch it when it was a fan TL... but the moment it becomes official, they complain about the money association (and will still pirate when it comes out) [in 2020]
>>
>>14948944
Because they believed the final patch would come out soon, and it probably would had it not been for the official release.
>>
>>14948910
Mangagamer maintains their TL quality mainly because it's Kouryuu's pet project, as he has worked tirelessly to get rid of the bad image Mangagamer had from Edelweiss. Sekai Project is all over the place quality wise, but their focus seems to be "whatever they can get away with for a particular title", which is a lower bar for bad doujin then high profile titles. Jast likely doesn't care unless there is a situation like Flowers where the backlash was posed to cost sales. The one advantage (for the reader) that official VNs have over say Crunchyroll in ensuring quality, is a company has to sell each title individually rather than just selling a broad license to many titles. Because of this, the quality of each individual title being passable is more important.
>>
>>14948952
That's still fan-tl entitlement mentality. Instead of going, "Nice! the team that worked hard on this for free, is actually now going to get paid! Good for them!" , they selfishly get mad with their deluded senses of entitlement.
>>
>>14948965
>The one advantage (for the reader) that official VNs have over say Crunchyroll in ensuring quality, is a company has to sell each title individually rather than just selling a broad license to many titles. Because of this, the quality of each individual title being passable is more important.

So I recently got myself a 3DS, and I noticed on the eShop that Circle Entertainment (the company that published Harvest December in English) released another game called "Parascientific Escape: Cruise in the Distant Seas", which also seems to be a VN (though with gameplay elements?). There barely seems to be any information on it, though, and even VNDB doesn't have an entry for it. Does anybody know anything about this game?
>>
>>14948896
While there are some exceptions (Rance fans are not all that happy with the current situation after the Alicesoft license) as a whole the rise of the Western VN market is undoubtedly a good thing for getting translations, as numerous companies are licensing some of their better titles, and once an official release is announced it will be reliably finished. However you are probably overstating what it means TL quality wise. Sure titles going through the big 3 (especially MG) will be done better than a fanTL effort, however it is becoming increasingly common for Japanese companies to go around them and do their own releases. If they happen to work with a good team like Subahibi, then that is great, but they are just as likely to go with an in house translator or grab any ESL person who offers to TL cheaply with no vetting process for TL quality.
>>
>>14948968
If someone promises (even implicitly) to give you something, then breaks their (implicit) promise and ends up not giving you that thing, you have a valid reason to be dissatisfied. Yes, they were doing it for free. But no, it's not "entitlement" when you're angry about not getting something when you were told you were going to get it.
>>
>>14949014
>that is great, but they are just as likely to go with an in house translator or grab any ESL person who offers to TL cheaply with no vetting process for TL quality.

Hahaha, I'm an evil ESL ( from central EU) and I study Japanese in Japan. Once my study period ends I'm gonna run around eroge makers and offer to translate their titles!
>>
>>14947722
I've heard at least some people preordered Ozmafia because they didn't know that MG no longer offered Steam keys for purchases on their site.

This is also likely a situation like No, Thank You where not alot of the genre is being translated. Most of the otome games on Steam are cheap OELVNs.
>>
>>14948043
They'll probably save that for AX or Otakon like they did last year. Albatross Sky Butlers awaits!

Fan translation "market" is still a necessary area where you can get "unprofitable" titles translated. I pay for VNs, but I can't pay for something that is not being published.
>>
>>14949175
Kinda who cares? If you cared you'd know Japanese.
>>
>>14949215
It's not "necessary." You always have the option of learning Japanese to play the unprofitable titles. Translators owe you nothing.
>>

Have fun with all-ages titles, since that's what Steam sales being so important means.

Higurashi's original translation wasn't very good and Umineko is supposed to be released on Steam this year. They aren't censored since they were all-ages to begin with. And they're sure to sell, so from a business perspective, it's a good idea.
>>
>>14949268
>Umineko is supposed to be released on Steam this year

They will release the 8 chapters 6 months apart like they did with Higurashi (for no reason). Enjoy waiting 4 years for a game that people can get for free already, that's some business strategy.
>>
>>14949243
Don't worry, I have a strong need to feel good about my work, so I'd never turn in anything bad.

>>14949250
Perhaps stop crying and learn Japanese. Again, you'd do it if you truly cared.
>>
>>14949231
I doubt translators translate because they feel they owe the world. I assume they do it because it improves their Japanese and they would like to share the joy of a good game.

That said I'm late to return to translating some of my own porn for practice.
>>
>>14949288
They might do it for reasons like that. Or they might do it for profit. Either way, that's their prerogative and it's not "necessary" for them to translate the titles you want, or anything at all for that matter.
>>

Let's say it takes you 5 years to learn Japanese. That's a good estimate to get a solid understanding even if you take your time. Now, how old will you be than? Probably around 15, given that you currently seem to lack the mental growth to see how learning another language will be beneficial to you in the long run. In any case, you will still have what, 60 or 70 years left, and can now understand the world's best pornographic material without any problem. You can literally fap until you dry out! What's not to like? You can even branch off to novels and games once you can no longer get it up. I'm willing to bet Tokyo Babel won't be very popular, because the majority of the English-speaking audience for its genre has already read FSN and is 100% convinced that nothing can beat that.
>>

It's a pretty simple reason, I think finding it convoluted is a bad sign.

So, what exactly motivates someone to make fake translation updates for months, pretend that they all magically disappeared, and THEN have the balls to say that you're starting from square one again and are looking for new translators?
And people are believing that he's actually going to do it this time?
What a fucking joke. For once I actually want to see somebody get a C&D. Maybe then we can have someone actually translate it.

>>
>>14952585
>>14952557
Ludo's another one of the 'translators' from Fuwanovel or Bakatsuki like MDZ who believe that learning kanji is unnecessary. They studied grammar for a couple days and then decided they could run everything through machine translators and guess the rest from context. That was painfully obvious from the early 'translations' he did where he fucked up basic things like 許す because he had no understanding whatsoever of what the word actually means, so always 'translated' it as "forgive."
>>
>>14952585
Well anybody can translate anything. Just look at all the garbage Fuwa and other machine TL / dont know japanese people do. Translating is never a matter of can/cannot. It's a scale of quality. In this case, it'd be "Yes I can translate that but no, it will not in any way be good"
>>
>>14952681
Is that really considered "translating". That's more akin to guessing.

>>14952681

Well I hope they realized that selling them is retarded. As is pricing all-ages differently from porn version. It is certainly not true that double price money goes all to the porn artist, so there is no valid reason for the discount/price-hike except "We want to split the customers into privileged and oppressed".
>>
>>14955562

So you think they should charge the same for a version of the game with less content? You guys miss the point that it's not usually that they're tacking on a fee for the adult version so much as discounting the all-ages version to compensate for the cut content.
>>
>>14955585
It's a bit more complex when the H scenes get replaced with something though, depending on the quality and quantity of what was added to replace it.

>>14953798
Nice try Milf Autist, but we know you're not Dovac. You didn't even once call MG shit, that was a dead give away.
>>
>>14955585
That is just your way of interpreting the difference in price.

My common sense tells me that if you have a reason to buy an all-ages title, it probably isn't "I want to buy the cheapest crap on the internet". So you are not buying all-ages despite lack of content, you do it because of removed content. The removed content is a value increase of the product for the target customers. For example a 9 year old girl can now read the story, without having to put up with dicks and cunts.

If a product has more value, it does not matter that it has less content.
>>

You don't need to worry about that. Months ago, MG said that given ImoPara huge success Moonstone is willing to let MG work on ano title they want from them. Now add into that PE success.

But yeah, I believe it's unlikely to see MG currently working on Marriage Lunatics given PE Happiness and the pretty much guaranteed Imopara2.

Not my point. The point is that the first blue line is completely wrong.
She says かおるは・・・ before getting interrupted. かおる is the name of the heroine in the novel she's reading. While I understand that "Kaoru" and "kaori", which means "aroma", are similar, this is a ridiculous mistake to make, by the TL, the editor and the QC. If you read the scene ONCE, you realise from the context that this is completely wrong. She starts reading, gets interrupted and then starts reading from the beginning again. How can have the lines be completely different?

>>
>>14965529
You can say that, but a lot of their releases and announcements this year just seem to be done at times that would effect MG's sales and announcements. It might just be paranoia, but that would just make it even creepier.
>>
>>14965608
To be fair, their sales are affected just as much by regular releases. Unless you of course count the tiny minority that only buy eroge and not a single other media product.
>>
>>14965608

How exactly would their announcements and sales specifically affect their competitor's? Look at video games, they tend to all release their stuff clustered together as we know in "seasons" simply because that's when their customer base has combined money and free time. I doubt they're planning around actively stepping on each other's toes, they're just all competing for the same slice of the biggest pie available.
>>
>>14964650
Great fucking work, Aru, DxS, and whoever the fuck else.

>>14965625

Too bad BDH is Aru's colleague, or does he only point out the competitor's embarrassing mistakes?

Because this is just fucking embarrassing. To have that pass through both the translator and the editor...

>>
>>14965641
Unless the editor knows jap then saying passed by him doesn't add anything.
>>
>>14965750

Yeah, this. Honestly, the flow of the English alone still makes some sense - she starts reading a line, the protagonist interrupts her, and then she starts at a new line rather than her old one, starting with her own name.

I played through that scene and the possibility of a mistake never even occurred to me.

You're making a really big deal of this when it's anything but. At worst, most people would think the protagonist simply remembered to have her change the name of the protagonist after she started reading. Which is completely normal and doesn't actually adjust your understanding of the scene one bit. Is it a mistake? Yeah probably. Does it affect or even alter your understanding of the scene? Not unless you're seriously stupid.

It's fairly obvious it's meant to be the same line. It was a good place to start from, and so she wouldn't change it without a good reason. Also, there's no reason the listener would suddenly be reminded of the need to change names unless there was a reason provided. All in all, reading through that scene in English is a slightly confusing experience.

>>
>>14962631

>>
On occasion I visit fuwanovel and it never ceases to amaze me when I see posts from users declaring a new project while admitting that they can neither translate nor program.
>>
>>14966596
I assume you mean translated. I've read plenty of translated eroge, including old MG releases, which were pretty terrible all-around.
>>
>>14966622
No, he means untranslated originals. Typos, missing/wrong words, wrong nametags, fucked up scripting, its all rampant in JP releases because nobody has money for proper QA.
>>
>>14966290

Apparently triggered by a completely unrelated sentence, because there was plenty of other time to have that afterthought. It's either poor storytelling or an error.
>>
>>14966656

Ugh, sloppy. They should reduce the size of their scripts, then.
>>
>>14966656

Unless you're experimenting with reading lesser-known low budget stuff, it's not THAT bad.

Typos are pretty common though.
>>
>>14966656
You must be playing some really low budget eroge if that's your experience.
>>
>>14966723>>14966715
Original Akagoei wasn't low-budget or lesser-known.
>>
>>14966723
Why? They're huge scripts and they don't exactly have a huge QA effort. Typos are common.
>>
Apparently Aroduc's translating Bunny Black 3.

To be honest, I'd back a LB! project, if that meant having ME on a physical box, like Clannad.

It's been months since they announced it, though. Where is it? Why the total lack of news?

ANN's got this announcement up, but it looks like haro must have missed a blog post because that's the only place with it.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2016-03-24/mangagamer-announces-discontinuation-of-soul-link-and-shuffle/.100190

I guess omega-vision's dumped it's stake in the company?
>>
>>14968231
Since it's not all of Navel's products, is there something specifically about those two that differs from the rest?

Or is it just a matter of time for all the games by Navel to go this way on MangaGamer's site?
>>
>>14968414
I don't know. Their lineup is Soul Link, Shuffle, and more or less Shuffle spinn-offs. They might have just grouped it together in the announcement.

Will be interesting if I decide to buy the games before they stop selling, or if I just pirate it "legally" afterwards because they stopped offering the games.
>>
>>14968414
Probably just a question of when the licenses expire, with Navel probably refusing to resign new license agreements.
>>
>>14968231
Would be very funny if title SP was going to announce is oretsuba or tsuriotsu.
>>
>>14968414

The other shuffle titles were ported so maybe it's an engine thing?
>>
>>14968231
>Price: $39.95
They didn't even discount Shuffle, what the hell? Is it DRM-free at the very least?
>>
>>14968704
No.
>>
>>14965944
Magical Eyes was set to release at the end of last month before being delayed, so it could be a placeholder date.
>>
>>14968704

The Shuffle games aren't, Soul Link is.
>>
>>14967349
Doddler is freelance and is working for MG, JAST, and Sekai Project, so he's flooded with official work.
>>
>>14968647
Unless MG can renegotiate, it looks like no more Navel translations. Maybe the management doesn't have any interest in localizing their titles. Shuffle was MG's bestselling game, so it can't be about sales for that particular title.
>>
>>14968722

I'm pretty sure he was talking about slc, not doddler

>>
>>14968792
Most likely doujin garbage because that's 90% of their catalog.
>>
>>14968795
I based on tweets, they're picking up https://vndb.org/v16521, so they may be picking up other titles from that dev as well.
>>
>>14968737
With the current situation of the Western industry, it seems more likely they would be planning to work with someone else, or set off to do their own thing over leaving the market.
>>
>>14968814
Unless the new management is just very conservative and doesn't want to bother with the western market. They could be planning to strike off on their own though, but Shuffle and Soul Link aren't all-ages, so they can't put them on Steam. And MG likely owns the translations, so I doubt that Navel can just reuse them.
>>
>>14968819
Actually, there has been all-ages port of Shuffle and Soul Link. So, they might want a slice of that Steam pie too.

Don't tell me the 3 announcements will include Shuffle! Essence+ and Soul Link Ultimate, now with Steam versions too.
>>
>>14968832
Soul Link was boring and I never got into the Shuffle series, so no big loss for me. Maybe Navel will just buy the MG translations for those titles, but someone would have to translate the extra content.
>>
>>14968832
There's no all-ages version of Essense +.

They bought a soso gutted dungeon-crawler. Just market it as having an anime adaptation and yanderes and it's set.
>>
>>14968832
Might be, MG has done that with R07 titles.
One day they went "we're not selling 07th Expansion games anymore" to announce "because we're re-doing Higurashi Hou and Umineko for steam now".

>>14969212
As novels they are soso, but have the "anime adaption" plus to pull them some sells.
>>
>>14969281
Even dovac wouldn't confuse a's for e's in "aokana".
>>
>>14969212
They buy shit like Sakura. There are no standards on Steam.
>>
>>14969327
They don't like low-res shit.

>>14969295
They mentioned a change in Navel's management being the cause, so it might not be similar to the R07 case.
>>
>>14969336
What's the res for Undertale?
>>
>>14969336

>>
This is too much of a coincidence. Navel drops MG with such short notice and SP just announces they got two more new titles to reveal.
>>
>>14969971
Kickstarter for Shuffle and Soul Link?
>>
What I find ironic is that the eroge companies do not want to have discounts, but they are pro steam with their 25-50% discounts on all-ages titles.

It is like they can't connect the dots between a discount service selling games and a no-discount service selling poorly.
>>
>>14969971
It might just be MG planning a relaunch with the updated versions along with Steam releases of them. It fits MG's teasing about sequels. MG's Anime Boston announcements are likely the Navel games and a hardcopy for either Kindred Spirits or Eden*.
>>
>>14968231

Well it seems like haro's awake, but there's still nothing posted on mangagamer itself. I wonder what's up with that? Seems like the kind of news that would get a blog post, or atleast a tweet or something.

And given how little effort ANN puts into anything, it's highly likely the only place they would have got the news from is a mangagamer PR. Did it just get put up way earlier than expected perhaps?
>>
>>14970390
There is now.
>>
>>14970689

Wow, no images or nothing. I guess haro got blindsided by the news.

I wonder what happens if they don't sell those last 3 shufffle hardcopies.
>>
>>14970702
I'm quite sure they have the rights to sell all printed copies. But there would never be any new ones.
>>
>>14970702

No, we just thought the PR would be enough but people seemed to be confused about whether the news was legitimate, so blog post.

eroge e3 gets normie con-goers that ain't heard of the company before. The idea is to shill your recent releases to them.

AX this year'll probably be pretty funny though. Depending on how they spread out their announcements, they could have 5+ to announce. Just showing the intro videos alone'll eat up 1/6th their time.
