Despite everything going against it, it seems like Haruka is a success, and is on track to continue being such. I would estimate that it is currently nearing 1k sales, if it has not broken that barrier already.

It would also appear that /jp/'s assumptions that the steamkey fraud was propelling terrible oelvns into the top 5 might have had some truth to them. Mangagamer's present top 5 is a much better looking group.

>It would also appear that /jp/'s assumptions that the steamkey fraud was propelling terrible oelvns into the top 5 might have had some truth to them. Mangagamer's present top 5 is a much better looking group.

That isn't entirely true. The fraud involved reselling steam keys. Which means there were real buyers out there looking for a discount session on these games.

It wouldn't be unreasonable to assume 50% of the fraud money could have been gotten through a discount sale. And the amount of sales would probably be near the same. (Obviously a fraud person would not hesitate to buy more games than he can resell)

>>
>>14883162

I was supposed to get the results post up this week but I've been behind. It shouldn't be much longer.

There are a couple bugs with the processor still but they'e pretty rare. Support can get most issues worked out immediately if anything doesn't work right though.
>>
>>14883037
Wasn't ImoPara that anime with the crazily shaking screen? Still no idea who would greenlight porn that is impossible to watch unless under the influence of heavy mind-altering drugs.
>>
>>14883485
The adaptation is irrelevant. The VN was top notch.
>>
Flowers delayed for more QC. Probably the only time a JAST delay has been met with relief. I'm actually quite impressed at how they dealt with the criticisms and the steps they took to correct it. Of course not fucking up in the first place would've been better but it is what it is.

Tokyo Babel is available for preorder and Higurashi chapter 3 translated and edited. I guess they're going faster after the slow sales of chapter 2.
>>
>>14883514
What I find poor is that they steal the title, without having a translator for it. They could have given it to MangaGamer and had a launch at about the same time.

Hopefully they actually learn that JAST is not a speed option to get more games translated.
>>
>>14883631
>JAST
>speed option
AHAHAHAHA
>>
>>14883631
Well, JAST and MG are competitors even if there are some overlap in freelancers. There is no way they are going to get a license for a VN at a hefty cost and then give it to MG.
>>
>>14883659
Maybe he meant that if Innocent Grey hoped to launch earlier by going with JAST, that was a mistake, and they should've just licensed it to MG, since it would still probably have launched at around the same time.
>>
>>14883680
Ah, thanks for the correction. I can see that.
>>
>>14883631

Maybe they went to JAST because of poor sales at MG. I don't see anything to support the idea that they went to JAST to release shit quicker.
>>
>>14884137
That makes no sense either. Publisher does not change how much you sell. But it would make sense if they wanted to sell hard copies and MG is too afraid of printing them.
>>
Anyone have a guide to Gahkthun's choices for the bonus scenes?

Give up entirely

Suspect a prank
Draw her weapon

Speak with him one more time

Return to his sculpture
Continue carving

Forgive her sister

>>

>Publisher does not change how much you sell.
Actually it does. JAST's connection to J-list and its advertising presence gives all of JAST's releases a boost.
>>
>>14884704
I wrote down what choices unlocked scenes for me when I played Gahkthun. I keep choice logs for games I've played. I've posted Gahkthun's in a couple threads prior.
>>
>>14884709
Is JAST's usual audience into something like Flowers though? It's an all-ages episodic yuri game that isn't even complete in Japan yet.
>>
Sekai Project seems to be in quite a pickle lately. Atom grrrl and the latest Sunrider have poor reviews on steam. Coupled with the fact that they canceled a Kickstarter recently and are handing out refunds. My suspicions that they're going to go in to bankruptcy soon. Remember that Dovac said they started the year in the red so I'm guessing they haven't been paying staff either.
>>
>>14884738
You can be in the red for many years and still be in business (see Amazon). That said, their kickstarter money seems to be slowing down. While the VNs are still getting funded, it's not as much nor as quickly as before. Their old kickstarters not only got funded within the week (if not days) but they also reached many of the stretch goals. Now they're even lucky if they get funded in the first place (usually by the last few days of the kickstarter). Never mind the stretch goals.
>>
>>14884738
>believing Dovac's lies about how everyone needs to give him money now
>>
>>14884723
>I keep choice logs for games I've played.

I bet that didn't work with KnS.
>>
>>14884770
There are only so many kamige that can be licensed and kickstarted. Root Double was a well-regarded vn, but it barely scraped by.

Libra of the Vampire Princess had more mass appeal, plus people were interested in getting a new player in the western market.
>>
>>14884784
I've never played that one. And if I do, I'll use a guide from the start.
>>
>>14884709
I doubt j-list and their ads can even compare to the information hubs people use.

After all, we are talking about people who click on banners. Banners for porn. People who never bought eroge before (or for some reason forgot where they last bought from).
>>
>>14884796
SP got all sorts of shit funded that nobody in the West has ever heard of. WAS, fault milestone one, Memory's Dogma, etc. Even got an OELVN (people sure as shit looked down on those) funded too. It's because retarded kickstarter users thought SP was the god of English localization and that by funding anything SP threw at them, they were "helping" the community. At least they're getting a little smarter by now. Well, except that one guy that funded a bunch of SP kickstarters, never played the games to ascertain their translation quality, but was left satisfied at what little he got.
>>
>>14884738
Looking at their stuff on steamspy it doesn't seem like that could be possible unless they're stupid enough to give out full wages like they said they do.
So they are either going to last for a rather long time or Dovac is going to run away with all the money.

>Remember that Dovac said they started the year in the red so I'm guessing they haven't been paying staff either.
That's not how being in the red works for companies.

Being in the red means your expenses are greater than your revenue. This is normal for a growing company and there is no problem as long as there is some outside source of income such as investors or loans. It does NOT mean they do not have enough money to cover expenses; it just means the money does not come from revenue. (Naturally, staying red for too long and not showing signs of improving will make whoever is providing the outside funding lose their trust in the company, which is when shit hits the fan. But it's perfectly normal for companies to remain in the red for years; MangaGamer was likewise in the red for years.)
>>
>>14884852
SP also has to deal with the fact that they can easily be cut out of the equation, as more Japanese companies are doing. Not that hard for a Japanese company to start a kickstarter, find a translator, or get a game on steam. Though that situation could improve significantly if they get through to Sony for console releases, or improve some if they build up Denpasoft to be a meaningful distribution platform.
>>
Sora o Aogite Kumo Takaku is up on Greenlight, being done by the Japanese company. Probably too much to hope for any improvement from them over Kagura Douchuuki

>>

Aside from the voice cast(Hanakana), I'm not really too interested in tokyo babel.
Conjueror even said its worse than ayakashibito, which I still didn't finish. If Tokyo babel does badly, Pygmalion is probably going to do badly as well. I wonder why they went for the 2-for-1 chuuni.

What are you asking?

Why does SP claim to require so much money to translate various games? That's easy, lies.
Why does SP get so much money? That's a mystery.
"How can mangagamer be making a profit?" That's easy, arunaru got paid 15k to translate haruka.
>>
>>14887054

SP has the shilling and steam versions going for them. Even then they apparently aren't making a profit on it all if we are to believe dovac, which is really what matters for a company in the long run.

Thank you, that makes it easier to guess. It also means that each game should have at least 2 or three clues for it.

>>
>>14889815
Look at the girls in the sequel, they don't look like twins at all any more(in fact, since each girl has a different mother none of them can be twins.). It could still be that, but I want to think its something else.
>>
>>14889836
I doubt its Eustia, since Haro would have listed it as a new partner like last year.

>>
There's more than two titles being hinted at though, being in the know.
>>
>>14889756

No.
>>
>>14889842
They're the daughters of the twins. It also makes sense about a sequel with double trouble. It's the next generation.

The clues most likely mean Kindred Spirits hardcopy and Imouto Paradise 2. No major announcements happen at Anime Boston.
>>
>>14889836
Eustia's a no-go, since AX and Otakon are where the major announcements happen.
>>

Taking stock:

Maria has one unknown title that she's working on.
Arunaru has one unknown title that he's working on. Not alicesoft.
Haro has two unknown titles that she's working on.
BDH has one unknown title that he's working on.
Conjueror supposedly has a title he's working on after his current "secret project". He hasn't said who it's for.
Kouryuu has made claims that he will finish DC3 by AX, which would leave him open for something.

Also, while the hints are vague enough to be not so useful(as we don't even know how many titles totals they're referring to, nor the total of new partners), I think I'd point out that haro marked up hint in purple and trouble in orange, which seems strange to do for no reason.

I don't really see anything pointing toward any of the lolige I was hoping for, but I didn't really hold much hope there anyway. Oh well. Maybe next year.

>As for BB3 in the future… even post-behemoth, I wouldn't hold my breath for a number of reasons. The most important one is that SH Chara's engine by default is double-width unicode, so it needs to have some… stuff… hacked to it to make it display English correctly. The hacker who did that for BB1/2 is with MangaGamer now and wasn't returning any messages for fixing the few lingering issues with BB2. I have, however, been told that MG and SHChara have been in touch with each other and they're not totally against it, but not now. Not soon. Not next month. I wouldn't even put bets on this year. KARAKARA looks set to fail, either because indiegogo is not as renown as Kickstarter or people are getting sick of SP's shit.

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/karakara-a-new-visual-novel-by-industry-veterans#/

Sadly, I can't even tell if them succeeding is worse than them failing in this case, where it just gives them free money thanks to flexi-funding.
>>
>>14892089
Why'd they go to Indiegogo again?

And the flexi-fund means they probably won't get much of a spike at the end right? It seems like they could have barely made it if it were on Kickstarter.

Well, it looks like it'll be 80-90% at the worst, so it's probably as good as funded.

MG already said that Shin Koihime Musou was too expensive, but this was several years ago, so things may have changed.

Sekai Project said that for various reasons, Baldr, White Album 2, and the Majikoi games were probably impossible.

Otome games tend to have super expensive voice licensing fees, so Diabolik Lovers might be too expenisive, like Starry Sky? was.

Not sure about the costs of Dies and Eustia, but if they were possible, you'd think they would've been licensed already.

IIRC, moogy got fired because he spent too much time sitting on his ass doing nothing. Which, if true, is kind of a really funny reason to get fired from a fucking jast project.

Really? Did they ever confirm they're going to release the censored edition and the unrated one at the same time?
They'll probably takes ages to release the uncensored version, like with Kajitsu. Don't mind the ero, if they are pulling changes like with Amane's route that's not good.

>>
>>14902428
Its not taking them long, they purposely wait with the 18 + version cause they hate h-scene and cant put them on Steam.
>>
>>14902428

If the first game is any indication, frontwing's forcing sekai to release them as two separate games(that each need to be independently approved).

steam makes the shekels so you can imagine which version dovac is prioritizing.
>>
>>14902479
Denpasoft exist for 18+ version. I mean i don't see why they can't release the steam version and the 18+ version at the same time on both platform. I don't care if SP staff is full of prude faggot, don't work in the erogame industry if you can't handle a bit of porn.

>>14902495
That's just an assumption though. I don't see the point of separating each version. You will earn more if you release them both instead of just one version.
>>
Dovac only created Denpasoft because people were bitching about Grisaia. Don't expect him to actually care. That's why people who fund their kickstarters are fucking stupid.
>>
I don't think dovacs strategy is very efficient. Delay 18+ version so long every buyer gets upset and pirates it is not really used by the competition.

I noticed that not even dovac cares about atom grrrrl though since the discussion pages are almost dead and no dev posts. I guess only brand names are worth going for to get the cash.
>>
Which one of you faggots was the one saying this was going to get licensed like a year ago again? Cause' you fucking called it.

Though it looks like it's the vita version and the localization outfit they're using to translate is the company that translated the otomate games, and from what I've heard the amnesia translation was a shitshow.
>>
>>14903282

Oh, and on the subject of new startup publishers that are popping up out of the blue with kickstarters and using gloczus to translate games, it looks like predictions of failure with https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/688648305/beastmaster-and-prince-flower-and-snow/description are soon-to-come-true.

That sure is some similar web design, and they're using the same company to translate too. I wonder what the point of this charade is. It seems strange to building separate brands this early in the game, even for a japanese company.
>>
>>14903282
While I'd really like to see the game translated, this looks half arsed at best. I'd also guess the chance for 18+ version is near non-existent if they only do Otome stuff.
>>
>>14903536
So wait, they're the same ones responsible for this monstrosity? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/688648305/unlight-lost-plot
They're also say localization is by Glokzus, which are currently failing a separate kickstarter for an otome game. How deep does this rabbit hole go?
>>
>>14903282
>15 tier: Steam copy
>60 tier: Downloadable copy of the voice pack
>$100 shipping fee for the physical pledges
What a shit KS for a all ages otome VN.
>>
>>14903575

b2g ran both that and https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/688648305/beastmaster-and-prince-flower-and-snow/description

gloczus isn't really involved in any of this beyond potentially being paid to translate if any of the kickstarters succeed.

Seeing that b2g's failed before, that might explain the new coat of paint. Less two brands, more trying to make a clean break from the old failing one.
>>
>>14903586

I would have thought it was obvious by looking at it, but it's not an otome game. They just forgot to edit their copypasta.
>>
>>14903588
What's weird is they keep increasing the cost of each kickstarter, even though they keep failing. There's no reason for a game to cost that much to localize. The beastmaster kickstarter is also way more professional than the new one...
>>
>>14903282
A top contender for the worst VN KS yet.
>>
Is it just me or is the shipping $100 on all tiers to anywhere?
>>
Boy there sure are some wild conspiracy theories about this being an elaborate fraud scheme instead of opportunistic jewry popping up about this now that the news has tumbled through the internet, and for once they're not coming from here.

Still, I'd say this kickstarter is burnt. I wonder what our friend Mr. Funatsu will come up with next when he wakes up in a couple hours?
>>
Apparently Aroduc's the translator for Chunsingura.
>>
>>14903899
Aroduc is a shitter who hates honorifics. A fucking commie dev, if you will.
>>
It does make you wonder a bit. If it costs 210k to translate text and fix all the bugs the poor japanese programmers added, what does it cost to make a new VN?

2 100 000 dollars?

Maybe they should just record a movie instead.
>>
>>14903282
>$210,000 goal

>>
>>14903939
According to minori, it costs a cool mil.
>>
>>14904019
Million yen, maybe.
>>
>>14903939
Isn't 200k fairly reasonable? Like if you were to get any "real" localization company like XSEED or Atlus to do a game like this, it'd probably cost more than that. It's only cheap because visual novel people are underpaid, well, kind of by necessity due to the smaller market.
>>
>>14904147
Not really, no.
>>
>>14904163

No, he's about right. 5c a character and 3c for tlcing a 1.5mil character project would eat more than half of that. The rest being split between kickstarter's cut, reward fulfillment, licensing and such wouldn't be too crazy.
>>
>>14904263
Ideally, a kickstarter isn't:

>we have no money so give us everything we need to bring it to life

It's to get some of that while gauging interest at the same time, and bailing if there's a clear lack of interest. So no, a 200k kickstarter for a VN is not reasonable.
>>
>>14904281
Or at the very least, not "absorb 100% of our costs for us, and we're not going to tell you what they are."

Plus, literally nobody in the VN industry pays 5c a character.
>>
>>14904281

Ideally, you're lucky if you can find a kickstarter as "benign" as that these days. More often it's a glorified preorder/milking drive.

Weird how they made it sound all positive. If the genders were reversed, all the guys would be called losers.
>>
>>14905106
It's sexist to call a woman a loser.

However you can call a man whatever insulting names and labels you want and you'll be hailed as progressive.
>>
>>14905675
It gets even better. It is sexist to be attracted to a body, like male brains are. But it is not sexist to be attracted to emotions, like female brains.

For some reason women decided that all men should abandon their natural behavior and become women because it makes it easier for women to treat them as women.

That particular kickstarter is only a lesson about how to not start a kickstarter. When you start a kickstarter with no effort to let people know about it, do nothing to get the word out, have a poorly written typo filled summary, have terrible tiers (which originally were worded so it wasn't even clear you would get the game with higher tiers), and have $100 shipping on everything including postcards, you aren't going to succeed.
