Depends on the region. My dad's family is from Wisconsin. They all have German surnames (Schulz, Kaufmann, Mohr, etc.). We even have records showing that they all came here after 1900 and we even had relatives on both sides of WWII. Hell, his parents spoke German with each other when they didn't want their kids to hear even though they were raised in Wisconsin.

Outside of places like Wisconsin or North Dakota it's probably more of a meme though.

That map is hilariously inaccurate. What is that, "British" only? You have to conglomerate us all together: American, British, English, Scottish, etc. Also where is "black"? There are plenty of places that are majority black in the old cotton lands.
