I guess the impression the man on the street has about America is that it's a freak show of murder and mass slaughter. Since the right to bear arms isn't elevated to any exceptional standing here, people don't have a substantial hanker for owning guns, and because this is a small, cohesive nation-state, mass shooting would be taken more heavily.
