Should I learn French as a second language and teach it to my children alongside English?

why french specifically?
but yeah. setting up your child with a 2nd language is great for their future
If you are an American you will never need a language that isn't English.
Even if you go abroad, the only places that will give you trouble is France, Poland, and shithole countries that you wouldn't bother visiting in the first place.

I don't want them to be alienated from other children when they go to school.

Nice.

It's either French or Spanish, and I really dislike Spanish. I also don't want people thinking my family are beaners.

Sad but true.

You'll need to teach them spanish if you want to prepare them for their future, that's out of the question. Besides that yes, french will open a world of knowledge for them and will give them a competitive advantage

you don't NEED it but its beneficial if you start them early. They can work in quebec or france, get jobs that require 2 languages (international law etc) opens up a world of literature.
Better to teach them Mandarin. This century is CHINKED.

I suppose you're right. I'm just not great at rolling my R's, but I guess my children will eventually get the hang of it if they speak it their whole lives and I expose them to Hispanic media.

Rolling R's is an added bonus but if you don't do it nobody is going to judge you on that if you are not a native speaker. Same with the french R
