It's not really larping, my point is that it's a nice form of a "German-American" culture that's both inclusive and has a long American history and contributions.

Actually a lot of the older architecture like Fachwerk exposed timber no longer exists in PA, it all rotted away. there's some remaining timber-framing structure Winston-Salem in NC, which was a Moravian community that mostly left for PA later on. There's a *lot* of stone structures left, even some older styles like the Hans Herr house and a few interesting sites like the Ephrata Cloisters, pic related. Not really full towns, most town architecture in the area is Victorian or later. Jim Thorpe and a few other towns in Bucks are really nice with a lot of stone, mostly them aren't really Dutch though

As for the people themselves, there's quite a few fancy, non-sectarian (as in not Amish, Mennonite, or Dunker) Pennsylvania Dutch who are pretty traditional and aware of their heritage. It's an interesting area. Where are you from?

I'm from Southern California. My parents moved here from Illinois though and that's where my family settled upon immigrating back in the 19th century. There's probably tons of various cousins of mine all over the small towns in that area.

Yes that's an issue. Modern Germans aren't exactly fond of their own culture anymore. Austrians tend to fair a bit better, but still have issues. No one wants to establish what it means, because there is too much holocaust and ww2 guilt coupled with modern political agendas that want to turn Europe into the United States 2.0
