One half of Koperniks family were ethnic Poles, the other half were Polish Germans who lived in Poland for generations and mixed with Poles. Kopernik was born in Royal Prussia, a province of the Kingdom of Poland; he studied in Krakow, Poland; and he died in the Kingdom of Poland.
And also, he was a Polish patriot, as his family, who fought for Poland against the Teutons following his families traditions. So yeah, this makes his nationality Polish, his ethnicity Polish-German (but dominantly Polish), his education was partly Polish and his loyalty was towards Poland.

Polish nobility was around 10% of PLC's population, that's about 1 million people in the 17th century. Today majority of Polish people should have at least one noble ancestor due to mixing for the last two centuries.
