>>78949086
>Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is an American immigration policy founded by the Obama administration in June 2012. DACA allows certain illegal immigrants who entered the country as minors, to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for a work permit.

Yeah so you don't know anything about our history.

http://www.history.com/news/9-things-you-may-not-know-about-ellis-island

>It was used for pirate hangings in the early 1800s.
Those pirates "literally got here" and got hanged.

>Immigrants were subject to physical and mental exams to ensure they were fit for admittance to the United States.
>New arrivals could also face rejection if they were anarchists, had a criminal record or showed signs of low moral character.
Sure sounds like being let in automatically.

>A notable exception to the name changing policy came in 1908, when a traveler named Frank Woodhull admitted that he had been born a woman named Mary Johnson and had spent the previous 15 years living as a man.
I uh... didn't know this myself, but I'm leaving this here anyway.

>It eventually became more famous for deportations than immigration.
>Ellis Island’s role as a gateway for immigrants began to change in the early 1920s, when a series of federal laws ended the open door immigration policy and established quotas for the number of new arrivals to the United States. By 1925, the government had also shifted the inspection process from American ports to the U.S. consulates abroad, leaving Ellis Island to operate primarily as a detention center and deportation point for undesirable immigrants.

There you go. You're unequivocally wrong.
And before you start continuing your retarded quest of trying to compare 1800s-1900s era immigration to modern day, let me stop you. Our economy was different in 1800, in 1900, and it's different today in 2017. In 1800 we were agrarian and needed warm bodies to settle farms out West. In 1900 we were industrial and needed warm bodies to man the factories.

In 2017 we don't need lower class labor. At all. It's going to get automated by machines within 30-40 years, so it's fucking retarded to let in low class people who will be redundant, unemployed, and leeching off the welfare state/UBI. Regardless of race.

>he point was that the law isn't right because it's the law. For it to be just or righteous it needs basis in some form of morality.

What the fuck is "immoral" about deporting people who sneak into your country illegally?

Youre seeking to abolish personal responsibility. If you can make an argument for illegal immigration, you can make an argument for being a heroin dealer.
If you CHOOSE to bring your kids to another country ILLEGALLY, there are repercussions you may have to deal with somewhere down the line.

You seem to be the type to blame a cop when he busts a theif. Actions have consequences, and flouting the laws of a country because theyre inconvenient is a criminal act. And how immoral is it to drag childrwn into the whole mess? The parents of illegal kids should be imprisoned for reckless child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of minors.

Why are americans so self centered? They came for their own sake, to try to improve their lives. Not to make some sort of cultural change in their new country. Just like all migrants. They are usually pretty individualistic people.

I've often heard the phrase "Immigration laid the foundation of America", and I think it's much more accurate than people realize. A foundation is laid once, smashed into the dirt, buried, and hopefully never seen again, while the remained of the structure is made in a completely different way with completely different materials.

America's foundations were laid a long time ago, on slavery and a melting pot of various flavors of European. Later we built an extention to the west, and we laid a new foundation slab in the form of Chinese railway workers. Those times are past. We don't need the vast bags of cement that are unskilled immigrants anymore. We want the fixtures and furnishings which represent skilled workers and entrepreneurs.

If we just let in everybody from around the world who was having a hard time with life, wed be overrun. Countries run on laws, not feelings. We already give more in foreign aid than everyone else, there has to come a time when you say "enough". We cant just let in every jackie and jaime from off the street, no questions asked, "Just come here to America and do your thing!" We wouldnt know who the fuck is here doing what. Its nowhere near unreasonable to ask that if youre gonna come here, do it legally. Thats all.

Why did he go on record saying dreamers deserve better then? The man doesn't give a fuck about principle but about "winning" which in the real world he's not, even if you're just watching Fox. So he's doing the one thing he knows how to do which is to try and bully his way into getting what he wants. Just a minor nitpick here, but the Declaration of Independence literally is not legally binding. It is not a legal document nor does it make claims to be a binding piece of litigation. It was a statement of the signers views and beliefs and a declaration of rebellion, an inherently unlawful act. It has nothing to do with what rights one does or does not possess. That's the Constitution.

Tough shit. Those prices are based on exploitation of illegal workers and industrialized flouting of the law. They're far lower than they ever should have been.

Expelling illegal workers will drive costs up, no question. This is a good thing, though painful in the short term. Cheap labor hinders technological advancement. Once labor costs in those industries rise to match the rest of the country, they'll have financial incentive to invest in automation and labor-saving equipment, which will improve efficiency and job quality.

The Egyptians knew about the potential of steam as a power source, but rejected it because it solved a problem they didn't have. Why spend time and money building a steam engine when you already have slaves and oars? Why develop a better way to harvest fruit when you have illegal workers and baskets? Why improve construction equipment and practices when you could just hire a couple extra hands under the table? We need to force these industries to compete for labor like everyone else, or they'll never improve.
>>
>>78956236
Actually due to a weird law from the Cold War, Ukrainians can move to the US very easily if they claim they are getting oppressed for being non-orthodox Christians or Jews: they are given automatic refugee status. It's called the Lautenberg Amendment.
>>
>>78956310
Why do you think getting rid of illegal workers will change that? Wages in agriculture and other manual labour jobs are still low enough, even for citizens, that it's often cheaper than investing in automation. Fir example large tractor mounted blueberry harvesters exist, but it's still much more common to hire small machine harvesters and hand rakers than to invest in tractors.
>>
>>78956495
It won't solve the problem overnight or by itself, no. There are a multitude of reasons why wages are where they are. But illegal immigration is one of the largest, more egregious, and in some ways most simple aspect of the issue. There's a clear point of failure (violation of immigration law) and a clear remedy (enforce the law). Other aspects depend on the specifics branch of the industry you're looking at. The considerations of blueberry farming are not necessarily comparable to growing apples.

Ultimately, my point is that illegal labor is harmful to the advancement of industry, of the nation, and the interests of the immigrants themselves, and therefore any industry which relies on illegal labor to maintain its operations as they are fully deserves the messy and expensive shakeup they'd receive by immigration enforcement.

That's a good thing. Legal immigration is always preferable to illegal, and if they have a valid point to argue then the legal means of immigration might be amended to better address it. I'd much rather have 100,000 screened immigrants than 10,000 screened more vigorously and 50,000 completely unchecked.
>>
>>78956950
Because a lot of them either don't work or work in positions that are straight-up illegal (below minimum wage, unsafe work conditions, too many hours).

You can't bring these people into the legal fold - their employer will simply stop employing them when they have to follow the rules.

They've been pushing for amnesty for forever anyway. What makes you think they'd be successful at making our legal immigration laws more lenient when they haven't been successful at passing amnesty?

Let's be real here. Fewer laborers is what spurs technological change. The Confederacy remained backwards because they relied on cheap human labor, whereas the North imported (and sometimes stole) European technology and invented new agricultural technology to make up for the relative lack of slave labor. Even prior to that, the Enlightenment and Renaissance would not have been possible without 50-80% of the population dying in Europe, which forced them to innovate to survive.

Cheap human labor is going to hold us back from the necessary technological changes we need to undergo to slap the shit out of China. It's like our opium. Our adjacency to Mexico is the prime factor we haven't fully automated all important aspects of our economy and why we can't provide a UBI or citizen's stipend to our citizens.

Cheap human labor is looking backwards to the days of slavery. We need to look forward to the automated economy. We don't need excess lower class unskilled laborers for the automated economy.

Won't this just result in fewer young illegal immigrants with college education? Would it not make more sense to have them educated and contributing to the workforce than not?
>>
>>78956950
Part of it is because it erodes the standing of the rule of law when you allow circumstances and weight of numbers to be legal considerations. Why should a dozen criminals be punished, but thousand be pardoned out of convenience? Another part is because it's unfair to those who DID enter legally, or are still trying to do so, if we allow the people who cut ahead of them to retain their place. Lastly it's because those who are currently here haven't been screened, are currently employed in those very industries and positions which are about to be impacted, and generally speaking are not interested in naturalization and assimilation into the US. Most of them are expressly Mexican, working to send money home to family in Mexico, and do not plan to put down roots.

Having them educated costs way more

Not to mention that it's not very likely that they'll enter the workforce afterwards.

>>78957138
>Why would the employer cease to employ them?
You mentioned profit margins in the next sentence, which really is it. If your business has a 2% profit margin and your labor pool goes up from $5 an hour to $12 an hour, there's a very good chance that your 2% will be demolished and perhaps even go negative. Instead of hemorrhaging money, it would make sense to just close down the business (like any unprofitable business).

This is actually good, even if it's a disruption. The agrobusinesses that can weather this are the ones with a shitton of standing capital; capital is precisely what you need a lot of in order to automate a sector. They'll look at cost-benefit analysis and determine whether the R&D investment and deployment will save them money in a market which pays its laborers $12 and sells strawberries for $X amount. Or alternatively, farmers will stop planting labor-intensive crops like strawberries and plant crops that already use existing automative tech, like corn and wheat.

Yes it will result in less berries and shit, but thankfully those aren't staple crops. Qualitatively I believe that the worst loss will be lettuce, but tech is catching up in that regard already: https://www.wired.com/2017/05/robots-agriculture/

Please don't pretend that home invasion and robbery are the same thing as illegal economic immigration. You know they aren't, you know that one is malicious and the other opportunistic. It's closer to speeding on back roads (something we all do) because the opportunity is there and it makes our lives a bit easier to save some time. I'm mostly playing the devil's advocate as I actually support a strong immigration stance but I'm not sure the economic argument is the best one. I prefer the issue of fairness. Some people work hard, make good decisions, and deserve to be rewarded for that with preferential treatment on immigration applications, it's intrinsically unfair that someone who did not make the right decisions, and instead cut corners, might get a better chance. That's a much better and more defencible position than the economic ones I have read so far itt.

Here's another example. I've noticed that people who accuse others of being "shills" or "thought police" come usually from one or two places: /pol/, and, of course, reddit. Now you may think, "oh, well if they come from /pol/ then it's not that big of a deal!". But, what you may fail to realize is there is a pretty big difference between /pol/ and reddit on this front. If they were from /pol/, they would have simply replied to me with "(((You)))", lehappymerchant.jpg, or some other accusation of me being Jewish. But they didn't do that. They called me "thought police" and accused me of "astroturfing". These two terms right here are what give these posts their distinct reddit smell. Accusations of "thought policing" and "astroturfing" (without the inclusion of some sort of Jewish reference) are almost exclusive to reddit. Make sure to look for these hints when trying to determine if a reply is reddit or not.

Countries try to attract already-educated people, usually from age 25-40, who are in prime working age. This because such people are already educated and have a lot of working years left in them.

Letting in 1 year olds means the state has to pay for education all the way up to 18. Letting in 60 year olds means you're sucking out Medicare/Medicaid (in the US, whatever equivalent elsewhere) to someone who isn't paying into it, and probably has a shitton of medical issues.

Again, if that's the problem, money, it makes more sense to grant them amnesty. These are good points >>78957237 >>78957165. If money is your goal it makes much more sense to make them legal, tax paying, citizens than it does to shut down millions of workers and pay to process and deport them.

Non neoliberals aren't smart or educated enough to know what that word means.

>using rhetoric like "let's let in a bunch of untrackable lower class people into our communities and hope that somehow the existing teachers/doctors/police won't be overwhelmed"
Kill yourself optimist scum

Another tactic of the so-called "redditor". When they are called out for their reddit-using ways, they are quick to adapt. The redditor knows that "faggot" is an insult used frequently on 4chan from his browsing of /r/4chan. So when accused, he will attempt to use the word "faggot" as much as possible to attempt to cover his distinct reddit smell.

>people are arguing about deporting children based on the economics when they also support a wall, that Mexico will not pay for, that every economics agrees is a gigantic waste of money

Go away.

But heres the onion: we live in a country of citizens who wouldnt stand for amnesty for criminals. Youve already seen at least half the country hates illegals already. A motion in the Senate to grant amnesty for illegal immigrants would be DOA.

I don't support a wall, but I do support deporting DACA children. Fuck off with your strawmen.

Huge environmental and animal impacts too, which is what bothers me the most.
