Why does the German language have two words for Saturday (Samstag and Sonnabend)?
>>78927681
Sonnabend means "sun evening", Samstag is derived from "sabbath".
(((Christians))) usually say "Samstag", patrician pagans say "Sonnabend".
When learning german all of the teachers only ever used Samstag, never heard Sonnabend.

Nobody I know says "Sonnabend".
>>78927768
because it's a real language and not some bastardized french

>>78928399
I think it's some kind of Mundart
I heard some old folks say it sometimes but none of the younger people ever say, Sonnabend

Same as we have Semmel or Brötchen for Breadroll. Different dialects.
I mainly use Samstag because it sounds obviously different from Sonntag. You can't be mistaken accidentially, because it's so similar.
regional differences, Samstag is more common in southern Germany while Sonnabend is used in northern Germany
