for blue collar workers at least. but they probably drink more than that. some students in my Uni also can drink up to 3-4 cups of coffee in school cafeteria

Yes, but it's different. I think most coffee drinkers in America now mainly drink Starbucks, which they pick up before work in the morning (though recently they've introduced glass bottles into stores which are now everywhere). I like my coffee with sugar, but the amount in Starbucks drinks is excessive, with about 30g. in one of those bottles alone.

People usually only drink 1-2 cups a day, and many people don't drink coffee at all. I do 3-4 though because it's nice and warm.
