2. Does your country have a national knife?
Russia
It's difficult. On one side, there are many historical knives which were produced, sold and used here: finnish puukkos, yakutian knives, simple blacksmith knives (kuyabrik), etc. But as far as I know, if there was a russian national knife, probably it wasn't that different from classic puukkos: simple and with wooden grips
Picrelated is a Zavyalov's factory-made knife from 19th century.
We actually have an officially recognized national knife. Ironically, it was first designed by a Czech immigrant back when he first moved to Canada.
>After World War II, Czech knifemaker Rudolph Grohmann immigrated to Canada. His business struggled until he linked up with DH Russell, a Toronto cutlery store owner. Russell had been disappointed by the lack of domestic Canadian knives, especially when he believed he could design a better knife in the first place. To make a long story short, what arose from this collaboration was a knife of unique lines and time-tested functionality.

Is that used to butter toast or something?

It's for cutting up animals after you shoot them. Unlike that monstrosity you call a bowie, ours works quite well.

Funny thing, when Vacha factory was making knives for the army, they called picrelated a Canadian type of knife.
>>78847014
I can kinda see the resemblance with the one on the left and our knife. Interesting stuff!
>>78847087
It's the handle. That's what you do when you don't need any sabers, but have lots of saber handles.
>>78847136
Did Russia make a lot of sabers back in the day? I thought they only started making lots of military stuff after sabers fell out of favour.
>>78847184
Back in the days of Russian Empire sabers were needed for some troops. After the WWI and civil war saber became more of a ceremonial weapon.

Now I'm imagining a French version of crocodile Dundee where he wears a beret and has a giant Opinel instead of a bowie knife.
We have so many knives that you wouldn't believe it. They are extremely regional in the US.
Most famous would be the Bowie, the USMC combat knife, and that WW1 knife with the brass knuckles on it.
But I would not be surprised if each state had atleast 1 knife that was unique to it. Michigan for example has a very unique style of knife.
It all stems back to our settler and pioneering days.
Receiving your first knife as a gift from your father is a normal part of life for a young child (in rural areas, not urban areas where fake Americans live), usually between the age of 4 and 9.
Knives here are like tomahawks, it is a truly American cultural heritage. Also: have a rare Pepe my friends.
>>78848382
Why are you so angry, man? I was just making a point about it's design as a weapon.
>>78848345
Transportation, the same with foldable saws
>>78848380
While that's obviously a modified version the Scandi grind is pretty straightforward and there's little variation in traditional Puukos or Moras, Martinis, Helle, Kellam, Enzo, etc.
Even Sandvik or laminated are pretty much standard for all but specialized or high end, really all you're making a choice on is handles.
I'm not knocking it mind you, they're all great knives.

Legality depending on country or region. There are laws about knives which can be quickly unfolded or deployed and somesuch.
>>78848691
I like these a lot. I've heard about this method of using them where you tie them unto the end of a stick and use them as a hatchet. Very useful for butchering whales so I hear. Also, where does it say that these are women's knives? Literally never heard that before.

Man, most of those are very recent variations (as in last couple of decades) capitalizing on gun culture now having grown into edc knives and outdoors. Sure, a few types did exist as bowies but for the most part it was was French and British trade knives for most of your history. If there's anything like a classic American knife for the average Joe is pictured.
I'd say kebab knife is our national weapon

I hate to butt in, but America has tons of original knife designs. Heck, they invented the lockback knife. I still carry pic related on a daily basis.
>>78848978
Looks like a saber with a rounded tip. I can see why this would be a good car weapon though. If you get stopped by the police, you can just say it's for making kebabas.

Fair enough, it's still for the most part 20th century stuff and that Buck is one of the few you'd actually consider classics.
Most Americans use meme Leathermans.
Classic "mall style" knife beloved throughout america
>>78849204
Leatherman makes good knives. Fite me.
>>78846001
Not sure if official but it the most popular and the most associated with us
>>78849247
Dude, leathermans are disposable shit compared to Victorinox. They're only good if you want a bit set on a knife, or should i say on a set of pliers, for whatever reason.
Yes, from Albacete
>>78849348
Now that is a thing of beauty.
>>78849253
Balisongs are pretty based, illegal here.
>>78849338
I use both of those on a regular basis and the knife blade on mine is still in great condition despite constant use. Granted, I got a slightly higher end model, but the point still stands. They couldn't offer a 25 year warranty and not go out of business if they made low quality stuff.
>>78849239
Shit, that's at least a level 12 weapon.
>>78849416
Look I'm not saying American made is shit, I'd fucking love to get my hands on a Bark River, but for the low end stuff you actually need a knife for in everyday use I'll stick to Moras and Victorinox. The Sak even gets a lifetime guarantee.
Americans simply don't make practical knives for everyday use and what they have tends to feel cheap or is something unserviceable like hollow grinds.
Sure, if I ever become a car mechanic I'll consider a Leatherman.
>>78849633
I agree with you there. As a knife, European stuff is usually better. That being said, Leatherman still has an amazing standard of quality that quite easily compares to other brands. America as a whole is no slouch when you really get down to it. Buck, Leatherman, Spyderco, Benchmade, Bark river, etc. They're all super good products and it seems like you aren't giving them a fair judgement. The advantage you get with European knives is how cheap they are. You'll spend maybe $15-$20 on a Mora or Victorinox whereas a comparable Buck would cost twice that much.
>tfw trying to google your gerber and it's all edgy combat nonsense
