English

>You have the charisma of a damp rag, and the appearance of a low-grade bank clerk. And the question that I want to ask, […] that we're all going to ask, is "Who are you?" I'd never heard of you. Nobody in Europe had ever heard of you. I would like to ask you, President, who voted for you, and what mechanism … oh, I know democracy's not popular with you lot, and what mechanism do the people of Europe have to remove you? Is this European democracy? Well, I sense, I sense though that you are competent and capable and dangerous, and I have no doubt in your intention, to be the quiet assassin of European democracy, and of the European nation states. You appear to have a loathing for the very concept of the existence of nation states - perhaps that's because you come from Belgium, which of course is pretty much a non-country. But since you took over, we've seen Greece reduced to nothing more than a protectorate. Sir, you have no legitimacy in this job at all, and I can say with confidence that I speak on behalf of the majority of British people in saying: We don't know you, we don't want you, and the sooner you're put out to grass, the better.

>ALL THINGS THAT ARE, ARE OURS. BUT WE MUST CARE. FOR IF WE DO NOT CARE, WE DO NOT EXIST. IF WE DO NOT EXIST, THEN THERE IS NOTHING BUT BLIND OBLIVION.
>AND EVEN OBLIVION MUST END SOME DAY. LORD, WILL YOU GRANT ME JUST A LITTLE TIME? FOR THE PROPER BALANCE OF THINGS. TO RETURN WHAT WAS GIVEN. FOR THE SAKE OF PRISONERS AND THE FLIGHT OF BIRDS.

let's pick this one in the meantime, very nice poem that uses the sound of the language very well:

O schaurig ist's, übers Moor zu gehn,
Wenn es wimmelt vom Heiderauche,
Sich wie Phantome die Dünste drehn
Und die Ranke häkelt am Strauche,
Unter jedem Tritte ein Quellchen springt,
Wenn aus der Spalte es zischt und singt,
O schaurig ist's, übers Moor zu gehn,
Wenn das Röhricht knistert im Hauche!

It was much better than most of the previous ones I've heard, there were a few mistakes but it was overall quite well done. For a foreigner, it's like a 7.5/10.

The vowels kinda threw you off, c is always a k sound, and ch is like the German ch (although in some parts of Ulster they pronounce it how you pronounced it, I think).

Odeur de merde/10

Actually, 10/10
>>
>>78729688
Quite good!

The text is literary and the author is using simple past: "baisai, maniai, ..."
The sound for -ai is not è but é, this is how the simple past "je baisai" and the imparfait "je baisais" are distinguished. So that's one mistake.
Other than that, dégagea is written "gEa" to make it sound like "ja", but the "e" is not pronounced.
The only other thing I noticed is your nasals. "Ensuite, puants, paysanne". They need a bit of work.
Good job, Kraut friend.

Intelligibile overall. Many Dutchmen speaking German that I've heard so far had a very sloppy accent, you are no exception tb h. The 's' in Dünste is a normal one, no 'sch'.

'st' in 'Dünste' and 'knistert' are normal, not 'scht'. Well intelligible, some errors here and there, mainly some mispronounced vowels and 'ch'.

If you need a text:
>The British Empire and the French Republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength. Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender

I'd have made it a bit more of a rousing monologue if I didn't have to keep my voice down. Shame I didn't do it justice
>>
>>78734932
Thanks mate, sounds nice to me. I love that accent, it really gave those speeches the required gravitas and inspiring tone. I'd learn it if it weren't for the fact I'd sound utterly ridiculous today.
>>
>>78735064
I have a family member who sounds like that. Also if you go into any high society function you will encounter people with that accent, if not tone. But yes, 99% of the time you would sound ridiculous.

If you are German I have a little request for you. Would you be able to give me your best and deepest attempt at an eastern (thueringen region, if possible) accent?
>>
>>78735131
Oh I can barely string a coherent sentence together in German. I'm Belgian, and a Francophone. That's why I pretended to get mad, and why I could do the French accent well before :P

Cheers m8.

The way the "a" and "au" are pronounced is noice, in my opinion.

I'm not sure why I like the accent more than others. Sadly I'm not a fan of the Koelsch accent/dialect but I won't admit it to anyone here for fear of death, kek.
>>
>>78735941
Kölsch is (next to Sächsisch) actually one of the accents that I like the most, though I apparently don't share that opinion with a lot of people. Bavarian and Plattdeutsch are great, too. I'm not really a fan of Southwestern dialects though.

Yeah I enjoy it too. There's some show on tv from time to time about northern fishermen, hard as anything to understand but still pleasant.

Nice, did actually not know this yet, I only knew this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVKylyNeRTQ
There is actually a whole Asterix & Obelix movie dubbed in Sächsisch (except the Romans and the teller speaking Standard German): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq8u3QWrkgs.

It's a pity that I don't really understand Low German, my grandmother still speaks it…
