this is nothing new, the plague was never entirely gone. humans just got healthier.

The Bubonic plague infects people from time to time, it's very easily treated with anti-biotics.

The fear right now is that we're in a time where anti-biotics were over prescribed for bullshit infections and now things are getting immune to them, if the plague became immune we'd have no quick fix for it.
