In Slovene, you just look at the suffix and it tells you the gender. It's so simple even an American could do it.
really the only thing in English is assigned a gender are military ships. People do refer to ships as 'her' but that's kind of outdated and isolated.

I think your original language ( old english) did too but after it became creolized because of Norman French it lost all its genders.
