about 5-10 years ago, it used to be very common. it used to be like, "I'm so straight, and I'm so secure about my sexuality, that I can pretend to be gay for my straight friend". There was even a term called gay-chicken; which is when two straight guys would do this, both of them expecting the other to chicken-out first.

nowadays, this sort of pretend gay behavior among straight men is much less common. I think what happened is that everyone became so accepting of gays, it stopped being fun to pretend to be gay, because it's no longer taboo to be gay. and people don't play gay-chicken, because both players will lose.
