Many Mexicans have tried grasshoppers, with lots of lime and chili to make them palatable, a couple of times in their lives. It's probably something like 2-3% of the population that eats insects in any regular basis (usually seasonal in rural indigenous communities) plus some few dedicated gourmet hipsters.

Your average Mexican is a hick who doesn't touch seafood despite our having a coastline larger than Chile's, they're certainly not eating insects, they like steak, refried beans and tortillas and that's about it.
