They are okay, I guess. If your are from America, unless you are buying a car or electronics things should be pretty cheap comparatively.

Language wise Thai is very influenced by Indian languages. Culturally as well seeing as over 90% of the country is Buddhist and. Among the Thai-Chinese the Chinese influence will be more apparent.

Like most east and southeast Asian countries lighter skin is preferred.

Thailand has fucked itself over pretty badly with corruption over the past couple of decades so I couldn't say.
