This was what was commonly thought (in fact it was law for a long time) until the hippies came about wearing the flag and had those laws struck down bcause muh first amendment. Since then marketers memed putting the flagged on everything into becoming patriotic.

i think you are missing the point. you will frequently see the american flag on underwear, bikinis, bras etc. the flag in america is used to cover the undignified parts of the american body. this is subconsciously a parallel of how we use our country and heritage as a people as an excuse to do terrible things and get away with it. see: every fucking war weve ever gotten ourselves into.

the flag is our excuse to do terrible things. obesity is bad as a whole, but celebrated here, and you will frequently see 700lbs people rolling into walmart on their motorsooters wearing flag tshirts with plastic flags on the backs of the scooters. stupidity and ignorance is celebrated, and the stupid and ignorant wave the flag at stupid and ignorant events. we put flags on our bombs, on our weapons and boxes of ammunition, and then ship them off to let others kill each other for us.
