That is because for a long time the Poles were occupied in the West by Protestant Germans from Prussia and in the East by Orthodox Russians.

The way to certify yourself as a "true Pole" that had not been cucked into assimilation is to be a catholic.

So the belief of Poles is more an expression of national pride than it is an actual belief in Jesus Christ.
