Basically this and a FUCKLOAD of personal honor. If you're a legit scientist in this country nobody will ever insult you or fuck with you really. Unless you're like, a biologist or something. I originally went into physics because I though meself not a dum dum and aim high. Also as I said, you're three steps above everybody else you'll ever meet. So like, it's just cool. That's literally it. It's just neat and combats boredom.

Everything that NASA does is in some way benefiting the Department of Defense. It's a civilian agency, but the military is the party that's getting the most out of what NASA designs and develops.
