Also, my mexican friends always try and talk about how they "used to be blonde" as a kid, or "have mostly spanish blood". When you go to the country, all their billboards and advertisements have white men on them, along with their tv shows, but irl I only saw a very apparent white person like once a day, if that. Even though the society is pretty mixed, you can pretty much tell the social status of someone by its skin color.

Whites (blondes, redheads) are rich as fuck, can be expats or pure-bred white upper class since the colonization.
Almost-Whites (Spanish, italians, 3/4 whites) are upper class.
Mestizos form the major part of the population, middle-class to poor.
Black people do all the work that the others won't. There's a whole department called Choco (I'm serious) full of them and it's a gigantic slum. They live there like animals, truly looks like a piece of Africa.
Natives/Indians are poor as fuck, malnutrition, drug abuse and mendicity are their lot.

The only exception is arabs. Lots of rich christian Syrians, Lebanese that emigrated a few decades ago to flee the muslims. They look like mestizos but they're all rich as fuck.
