is Russia as oppressive as media says? or it's just anti-Putin propaganda?
What media? Everyone portrays it differently.
But objectively the Russian government has been getting more repressive since 2010's, particularly in the laws that are being implemented.

Putin definitely has some authoritarian traits, but in contrast to what many Westerners think you will not end up killed or imprisoned if you criticize him, people do have access to western media and being gay is totally not illegal

that applies to every "western" country. but media describes it as "fight for progressiveness" and claim its a good thing. although despite what pol thinks the reason is technological advancment and all the liberal leftist crap is just convinient excuse. if monarchs of old had modern technology they would nanochip every serf and track every grain they ate. if government has option to gain more control you bet your sorry ass they will be on top of that.
