Where are the first world buildings?
Will the Taipei and New Taipei City government ever go through with a hard stance on illegal rooftop additions?
I think they should, especially for safety reasons, but it would also mean a dramatic loss of apartments in the region.
So the first step would be to pump a lot of money into public housing and create affordable housing projects then go through and tear down the illegal houses and actually punish the landlords with serious fines.
I always feel like fines in Taiwan are laughable.
They're too low to be taken seriously by those who have to pay them.
A 300kNTD or something fine won't stop any shady rich guy from doing what he's doing. Especially when he can just bribe the officials anyway.
