This is a related question to this thread...
My grandpa fought in 'Nam but he never spoke about it much, and died a few years ago.
Is it possible to look up records and see if he did any actual combat during the war? The most he ever told me was he stayed on base a lot of the time, and would have Vietcong attack his base every few weeks.

Vietnam War
>first stage
Communist rebels and insurgents fight the French and try to gain independence for Vietnam.
The French are supported by the U.S. however they lose their colony.
>Second Stage
North and South Vietnam pop up.
The South are a democratic capitalist nation supported by the U.S.
While the North is a communist dictatorship support by the USSR
>Third Stage
Viet Cong and anti-government rebels pop up in the South.
The U.S. supports the South against the terrorists financially but very little actual land support.
>Fourth Stage
The North Vietnamese government begins to fund the Viet Cong, and they begin to become more of a problem.
>Fifth stage
The North Vietnamese are gradually getting more arrogant and are supporting the Viet Cong more and more.
The U.S. starts conducting warfare in Vietnam, both officially and unofficially.
>Sixth Stage
After years of support growing and growing on both sides, the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong launch the Tet Offensive, this is a massive failure for them, however it begins to grind away at the war's support in America.
>Seventh Stage
With the support for the war growing weaker and weaker in America, but still growing in North Vietnam we begin to lessen our support for the South Vietnamese, however the North still does not gain any ground.
>Eighth Stage
The U.S. officially stops American military involvement against North Vietnam and the Viet Cong.
This also resulted in a cease-fire between the North and the South
>Ninth Stage
After the cease fire is signed and the U.S. agree to no longer support the South militarily, the North Vietnamese government illegally annexes South Vietnam by breaking the cease-fire.
>Tenth stage
>40 years later
Autists and Vietnamese revisionists shitpost on how the U.S. lost a war against "rice" farmers
