For the record, the Arabian should be called "Southwest Asia" if we treat the Levant, Asia Minor, the Caucasus and Iran as as West Asia. This is only fair if you consider Indochina and the Malay Archipelago to be Southeast Asia.

For you it is the middle West, and Europe is the far West. It's all relative. I guess the near West would be China/Southeast Asia would be the near West.

For me western Europe should be the "east", and Japan should be the "far west". For some reason all these relative terms are based on western Europe.

It's simply because the therm is based on the european location. For example we call you guys (Japan, China...) "extreme orient", so extrem east. These words were made by westerners for westerners, then spread all over the planet.
