Our corruption system is corporate and not based on a single figurehead in power, so trade unions, bureaucrats, political parties, they're all in bed together, they can all continue stealing regardless of who wins. That includes the socialists as well.

Oh that, the guy got along with Carlos Slim when he was major of Mexico City, he's got a Chavista style personality cult but we are not Venezuela, he can't entrench himself in power or turn us into a socialist dictatorship. He'll be out once his term is done no matter what he does. And he'll get along just fine with the business establishment and multi-national corporations. What we fear is that he'll wreck the country through mismanagement and incompetence, not that he'll be any more corrupt than the current guys (impossible) or that he'll actually turn the country commie, we are technically socialist already when it comes to major policies (eg labor, welfare) so it's not like he can really do that type of damage.

Really the people who will suffer more from him winning are conservative middle classes with a wounded pride on having to swallow a vulgar populist is in power. I've seen his plans for government over the years, other than a lot of rethoric nothing much should change.

We wouldn't allow a Cuba-style regime on our border anyway, we'd probably just invade Mexico and overthrow the government if that happened. During the height of the Cold War, the CIA was paying off the PRI to execute commies (like after the 1968 student demonstrations).
