Guatemala is going to resive, in concept of remittances, about NINE BILLON dolars. That is over four times what the canal toll gives Panama.

This money is mainly going to people in rural areas. So I ask you. What are they doing with all that money? Why is Guatemala not developed at this point?

Guatelama, wtf!?

This money is not even going to their government, tho. As I said, it is directly going to people in rural areas.

Why are Panama and Costa Rica so successful while the other Central American countries so awful?
>>
>>77904151
Panama until this day is a US client state, so its stability is important to american companies
Costa Rica is just OK, looks successful because well, you have the worst of the continent next to it to compare.

In our case it is that we did exploited our geographical position since the Colonial Era. Without it, we would be Nicaragua tier.
Costa Rica has been very peaceful since forever. It is one of the oldest democracies in the Americas.

Ther real question is: What the fuck is wrong with the North Triangle?
>>
>>77904360
mexico's stability is more important to amerishit companies
usa has couped around 5 panamanian governments, 2 of them dictatorships and invaded once they have no problem in bringing instability. so when you see panama remember we are succesful because we rock, then see your country being shit and askyourself what is wrong lmao
>>
>>77907911
Yeah the point got all over your head.
You cannot compare our economic situations, you are used for transportation, all those skyscrapers and shit you have is because companies can settle in Panama and dodge taxes, and use the canal for transportations.
You having "control" of it was just another huge maneuver by the US, but at the end they have a lot of leverage over you, your country exists because they wanted it to exists, otherwise you would still be part of Colombia.
We are by no means what many would call a "successful country" but neither are you, you are like Macau, a buffer state for foreign companies to do business.
The stability of Mexico and Canada are key to the US for far more reasons than just neo liberal economics, but security and well being of the general region.
>>
>>77903955
>That is over four times what the canal toll gives Panama
They also have over four times your population, so, really. And it's not like the government can dispose of that 9 billion dollar capital at once, but instead it is fractured in incredibly small amounts of money and distributed over millions of people, so it's not like they can invest 9 billion dollars in an infrastructure project, but instead, millions of people have enough dollars to buy independent things.

The difference is that Panama itself is a geographically important location for the US, so they need you up and running so they can cross from Pacific to Atlantic without having to go under south america.

Is this what Mexicans actually believe?

When are we going to build a canal through the isthmus of Tehuantepec? It will rekt Panama's economy

Theyare going to build a big cathedral in the capital too. In cayala. Most rich families here are catholic since they came from europe man.
>>
>>77903955
Those billions of dollars are a big part of our gdp tho. And mainly go to rural families that don't invest their money properly. I have been told about poor looking families with lots of money but they don't do much with it.
>>
>>77903955
Sorry to say but this is a Trump tier understanding of how remittances work friend, this isn't the Guatemalan government receiving the money but common families who do have to meet basic necessities. There's certainly an economic spillover effect as the money gets spent but it's not like it's sitting there on a desk with a big sign pointing at it reading "money for Guatemalan development"
>>
>>77910814
9 billion dollars in religion must be a lot of churches, huh. Never mind that the government doesn't build churches, and much less with money they can't dispose off. The church makes money in it's own way, and it has nothing to do with government infrastructure.
>>
>>77903955
We may not be developed but the only thing I could say is that we have the most modern city in central america after panama city(but san jose, costa rica is getting very close). Still, I wish Guatemala could be as developed as Costa Rica on a national level.

Just got back from guatemala. Common people literally live in huge on mountainsides with no beds most of the time.
>>
>>77913260
I mean, Guatemala city look quite fine to be honest. And some parts seem fairly developed. But it is the rural areas of the country that are lacking.
>>
>>77913289
Man, poor rural people are overly religious, I get it. But that has nothing to do with neither the government nor the remittances.
>>
>>77913334
The movie "Ixcanul" gives a good example of this.
>>
The government manages money poorly. This car could be sold to fix normal car cops for example.

>>77913368
Yeah, thats why many go to the capital or the U.S. to make money. Our second most important city barely looks like one.
>>
How do we save Guatemala from the Church and and Evangelicals?
>>
>>77914132
You don't like neither catholics or protestants? If wish we were as catholic as mexico. Protestants are crazy.

We must save our lands from the (((seculars)))
>>
>>77903955
Poor people are bad with money while this church will be good for tourism and the image of the city. So there is nothing wrong with this.
>>
Better a church than an Xbox.
>>
>>77918123
Gringo style christianism is really bad here. Atleast it is not islam tho.
>>
>>77904151

Panama and Costa Rica are just as shitty as the rest.
>>
>>77918237
Well here's the catch. Guatemalan churches have high attendance numbers.

That means that even if they give a small amount per weak the sheer number of attendees make it a hefty amount.
