There must be some genetic component to whether ticks will bite you or not. My brother only has to go anywhere near a forest and immidiately 2-3 ticks are on him, I can run around there for hours in shorts and don't get a single one. Haven't had one in way over ten years now...

Truth be told ticks being attracted to you must be individual. I've spent every summer vacation (supposed tick fest) of my childhood and teenage years in the countryside in the middle of a forest and throughout my life I had just one conveniently stuck to my ballsack while my gran can go to pick mushrooms for a few hours and come back with 3-4 at a time.
