I don't particularly like the most recent Chinese simplified characters, but I'm also not a fan of many of the traditional characters used in Taiwan, and other places. Things like 漫画 being 漫畫、学生 being 學生、etc.
It is probably just personal bias because I prefer Japanese.

Because Kanji is our culture and Japanese has many homophone because Japanese
pronunciation is simple so we need to use kanji that is ideogram(other two Japanese alphabet are Phonetic symbol).
