Let's not forget that the data measured here is from 1990-2010. There were censuses in 1990, 2000, and 2010. But China was a lot poorer and mostly rural in these years. Many Chinese rural women barely can read or write and are treated a bit like cattle. Similar to India and Pakistan and Vietnam (any developing country).
