Both canadians and americans hikers do because of canadians reputation. To the average non anglo is hard to tell the difference between the accents. Americans tend to blow the cover pretty fast tho.

I wear a Canadian pin but only going through the airport. Otherwise, I stay as inconspicuous as possible and try to dress like the locals (which led to some embarrassing moments in Sri Lanka).
