The British Invasion bands were inspired Chuck Berry, BB King, Bo Diddly, and other black American guitar players. They were influenced by American music in general, but black American music was a very large part of what influenced early British rockbands.

It's also what gave rock it's edge, because it was "black music" to people who grew up in the 20s and 30s (the parents of 60s kids).

was that the reason rap music gained its popular status in 80s-90s? because being just black wasnt edgy enough for goldberg records anymore and the new hip revolutionary thing was letting criminals sing about their dope pushing and killing? not belittling the talent that was out there at the time like biggie and 2pac both were sensational in their own merit but i dont think you can say the same about the modern mainstream rappers repeating mufugga for 2 minutes while driving gold lambos on a commercial music video

Rap is shit though. There is SOME decent rap, but it's a genre that requires little talent and is mostly garbage. I grew up listening to hip-hop, and when I started playing guitar and listening to guitar genres, I drifted away from it because I became impressed by musical talent rather than bragging and talking shit over someone else's music.
