>friends parent says dinner is ready
>'brb anon just gonna eat'
>stay in friends room while they eat

Is this common in your country?
Sweden yes
Pic unrelated

either that or they invite you to eat with them

fucking weird
they invite the guest to eat too
>>
Never had that happen to me. Every time I have been at friend's house, their parents always offer food and vice versa. It's just common courtesy

Who the fuck doesn't invite the guest to eat?
>>
>>77650886
That would be considered rude as fuck here

Holy shit a friend of your son is in your home at lunch time, invite the kid to lunch

baka @ white people

TINY
>>
If the host's parents know that the guest's parents are preparing a meal for them at home that makes sense
If it was staying over on the weekend though I'd expect that the kids were getting fed at the house where they were playing vidya
>>
>>77651166
Honestly it might be a Euro thing.. even in the US we have the decency to offer food to the guests

They probably literally talked to your parents on the phone about their meal plans
>>
>>77651247
Yea it is, especially if it's just a kid

Maybe just asshole parents?
>>
We did this too

Only if parents called ahead and asked if it was okay did we eat with them/friend eat with us

>>
Home for dinner is an important thing in some places
You can spend 2 hours after school tearing up the neighbourhood as long as you're at the family table at 6:45 pm
>>
>>77651642
Sweden != euro in a general sense though
>>
>>77651610
Leting your kids friend not eat if they are there is psychopathic behaviour though. Not going home is a bit strange too maybe but if you are a kid you might nit have that sense if akwardness though. Sweden is fucked up
>>
If my friend can't eat, I don't eat. If I can eat, my friend eats with me/my family. Pretty simple hospitality rules.
>>
>>77651610
Sweden yes!
>>
When I was in middle school I had a rich friend who lived in Manhattan and his parents would always take us out to expensive restaurants and pay for everything. That was nice while it lasted.
>>
I always went home for dinner at the agreed upon time unless eating at friends place was part of deal to begin with. Sometimes there could be that situation where I still stayed though because dinner times vary from family to family I think.
>>
>>77650886
Nope.
Ofc, other kid is always offered (is this correct word? O.o )/ If kid is not hungry (ate at home, before visit) they could wait. Or they can go home if their parents expect them at dinner. But it is normal to at least invite guests.

Being a good host is important here so people are really trying hard. And yes, it is partly just what people like to say but often people from serbia go somewhere in west and see the difference and vice versa, foreigners say that too .
>>
>>77650886
no, wtf
if I have guests I make sure they feel welcome
>>
Of course you offer a meal to guests, what is this, a medieval dungeon?

Next you'll tell me you don't offer plumbers or electricians a glass of water.

>>77650886
Depends on the situation. Never had that happened, But I could see it if you were like neighbours and you'd be going home for dinner, or they were poor or something.
>>
>>77650886

You've either got to offer the kid some food, get them to eat with you, or take the little fucker home before you eat

Just having them wait in a separate room is awkward as lol
>>
>>77653157

I have a friend that emigrated to Germoney.

She is in highschool and was doing some project with few classrome friends at home of some german girl. In serbia usually first thing would be to host offer some drink (coffee, juice, water whatever) but they just started with work on project. So, after a hour she felt really thirsty and asked for glass of water. Host: " Oh, dont worry, we will finish soon with project"

So, that was weird for everyone here that heard a story and many interpret it as a cultural difference but I guess it was just one weir german girl, r-right?
>>
>>77650941
>they invite you to eat with them
in turkey always this.Even if you are not hungry.
>>
No. Dutch people will invite you to eat along.
>>
>>77653659
No.
You should always bring your own stuff.
>>
>>77653766
But Dutch people themselves tend to wait for each other before they start eating as well. So, it would be odd to wait for everyone except one person lol.
>>

it's pretty dickish but I can see it happening. Especially if both you, the other kid, and his parents are all socially awkward fucks. I think Dutch etiquette is always a bit different from other countries. We are very minimal on politeness and courtesies. But we have a lot of unspoken rules that you cannot break.

And dinner is one of the strict ones. People might not even open the door if you ring the bell during dinner lol. Because your busy having dinner.

>>77654576
>le autism worldwars meme

Yes we do have friends and our friends can feed themselves.
>>
>>77654696
It's not about whether they can feed themselves or not.. if you invite a guest over it's common courtesy to treat them. Do you really not understand this?

>>
>>77654759

>>
One of my friends literally made me wait outside their house while they had dinner. Thinking back it was pretty fucked up.
>>
>>77654808
It depends. If you're eating/having dinner it's common courtesy to offer that person food
>>
>>77654808

And then again once you want something yourself.
Or when the person asks for it. Or when you think he wants it.
>>
>>77654788

I used to live in Serbia and Croatia in the kid in the late 90's, and sometimes I would hang out at my friends places for many days at a time, yes, but there was an understand that I would always be offered dinner *if* I stayed till it. I usually just went to their apartments in the day, so maybe from 12-4 and sometimes we would go out and play around the city or go to a gaming cafe. 90% of the time I would go home and eat with my family though, I wouldn't make it a point to spend time at my friends place just to eat dinner.

These nuances are not difficult to understand, and everyone knows not to intrude on other families habits and practices too much. But having dinner at your friends every once in a while is completely normal in almost everywhere I've ever been.

Whenever you're over at someone's house, no matter how close you are to each other, they will offer you something to drink like coffee/tea/juice along with cookies/bread/cake or whatever they have available. It is much more common at night though.
My gf's family does this very religiously though and it can get pretty annoying.

>go visit gf at 4pm so I have lunch at around 3 or just before leaving
>get there and they have just eaten as well so they offer me food
>tell them I've already eaten
>they insist because I HAVE TO HAVE A TASTE OF WHAT THEY COOKED

>>
>>77650886
No, usually parents treat guest children better than their own kids, at least in my experience on both sides

What I don't get though, is that you guys had to eat dinner too right? So how late would you go home if you stayed at your friend's house and they let you just sit there in another room? Would you just go a whole day withour eating dinner?

wew, we usually have a snack by that time and dinner at 7-8.

No
You either get invited to eat or you take that as your cue to leave.
>>
>>77658418
I had a friend who would have dinner at 5 on the dot every day, when he came over he always whined about my family sometimes not eating until 8.30
>>
>>77658103
I get this a lot about slav countries. Apparently city people are mostly all rude? and the countryside people are the most friendly?
The same can be said about Mexico but people in the city can be extremely friendly and helpful if you stay away from Ciudad de Mexico.

Northern Europe became rich not by giving free dinner to every punk
>>
How did Germany ever unite when they obviously don't care about each other
>>
>>77650886
At least the parents or that friend should offer you to have dinner with them and you declined, then it's okay. That is super awkward to both parties tbqhwy. It's not common, but a common sense to offer foods.
>>
>>77659959
Doesn't the government give NEETs money there?
>>
I don't know about the other Germans here spreading their autism, but I believe they are trolling you.

When I went to someone's place as a kid or someone visited me my parents would offer lots of food actually. They offered yogurt, sweets and when we ate my friends were invited to eat with us. I also ate with other families.
It could also be that this is a regional thing though and eastern Germany once again proved to be inhabited by the superior, more friendly and more rational people while western "Germans" once again proved themselves to be self-hating beyond belief.
>>
>>77663863
My parents even invited some of my friends to go on a vacation with us. They would pay for everything including his food and once even gave one of them 10 euro so he could buy a CD as well when we visited an electronics store
>>
>>77650886
>Is this common in your country?
Absolutely the fuck not
>>

This desu. Did similar stuff
>>
>>77650886
Sounds autistic as fuck to just leave him in the room. Usually hanging out at a friends house they will offer you food, drink, or at least get a snack. A few of my friends' parents also took us out to dinner/lunch on occasion.

Rare desu... Here they invite you to join the meal.

And if is not dinner/lunch time they make you eat the afternoon snack (called "merienda")

you are suppose to go home when they are having dinner

That's because your country is full of autistic subhumans. Who the fuck doesn't give a guest something to eat, in my country you'd have people going to the market and buying stuff especially for the guest.
>>
>>77650886
Uma...
>>
that's pretty fucked up

my mom would always go outta of her way to make sure my friend ate something
>>
my mum never did this when i had a friend over after school and it rarely happend in our neighbourhood. It mostly happend at friends with rich parents. Guess it might be a class thing. The friends with rich parents would also mostly decline dinner at my house and then eat at home. Dunno if they had been told to do so.

That's fucked up, the only place that I thought this would happen are countries like India or something.

My father once tried this with one of my sister's friends and my sister teread him a new asshole.
The fact is: he hated that girl with a passion.

The general rule is to invite the guest to dinner, if nobody is in the mood for cooking, order pizza.
>>
>>77668066
A pizza ananas surely.

>>77668259
>>

this
>>

That would be considered extremely impolite. The guest is always invited.
>>
>>77667627
Son of richies here; we always invited guests to eat with us.
I have however also tried waiting while my friend ate his dinner. I think it's largely due to the fact that neither I nor the person I was visiting had asked the parents whether or not I could join, and the parents thus expected I had dinner plans at home.
>>
>>77663863

If you wanna food you have to earn you food.
>>
>>77650886
absolutley haram
but from what I read in the comments, at least you guys care about the guest being able to eat with their family
at least you could ask the guest "are you eating at home?"
>>77665080
this
>>
>>77672295
It means that you talk in advance approximately how long you can stay and thus also making the food plans clear. Usually as you are talking on the phone asking if you can come over. Is this a foreign concept?
>>
My mom always asks if my friend is hungry or thirsty. The thing we do with guests is ask them what they want to drink. Without even asking she'll bring in cake or some dumb shit where we're hanging out.

a latam thing.
They are always polite with guests, and i actually feel bad if i refuse but i dont want to be seem as a "gorrero" (somebody that usually goes around looking for free stuff)
>>
>>77677578
Because that kid's parents also have to make dinner plans and might even be worried so they shouldn't ask the kids, they phone the parents. Thinking about it all I think the most common thing was you agree to meet up and then told your mom and she told you when to be home. I also remember one time I wanted a friend over and let him stay longer so we could play some game so I asked if he could eat dinner with us.

Standard protocol is that you hang out during periods between major meals, unless it is clear that they are invited to stay for the meal.

No. The parents would offer their child's friend dinner, if they wanted to join them.

My friend's families would usually offer me food as well as did my family to my friends. It felt kinda stupid but I guess it wins waiting in his room alone.

kek at all the replies. this sounds odd but it totally depends on the circumstances. for one, age makes a big difference. for little kids i don't think it is a big deal, many won't even home at home unless forced. anyway, i wouldn't say omg this is unthinkable.

I've always been invited to eat with them. I think it's very rude to not invite the guest to dinner. In fact, some families invite whoever shows up at the door to eat with them if it's dinnertime.

People are gonna always offer food here at a friends place. Just say yes please or no thanks to the offer.

I'm guessing this is really a Mediterranean thing. I had a friend from Greece, and whenever we would hang out, there'd be dinner ready and they always insisted i eat. Like, i could never turn supper down at their place. It was good food though too, so i always said yes

Also my mom has a friend from Greece aswell, when she visited Greece a year ago, she said it was every day they'd have a 3 course meal at supper and it'd be considered rude to say no to the offer. Well in her words at least

Blowing things out of proportion much? You don't need to be a Chad to be nice to people. Believe it or not, but some people don't act like how they act on 4chan in real life.
