It might look and sound unappealing but there's really nothing inherently dangerous about it and there are probably countless other things you consume that are produced under worse conditions.

Scandinavia has one of the worst, if not the worst cuisines in the world at least in part because because the area traditionally didn't have high agricultural diversity and was far more closed off to trade of foreign ingredients (i.e. most herbs and spices).. The food is bland because there wasn't much of a choice otherwise until recently. Prawn-egg sandwiches and herring on rye aren't for complex palates, sorry.
