So my job is making me live in 'Long Island City'

That's New York right? is it nice there?

Any tips that Americans know about living in your country?

That's not enough money to live in NYC nigga. Seriously. I mean people do it, I guess, but I don't know how. You might qualify for government housing, I don't know those rules, but even if you did qualify, do you want to live surrounded by a bunch of other people who qualify for government housing? I wouldn't.

Hey OP if you're making $40k a year your monthly take home will be around $2400 after taxes.

This is an apt I found looking for 30 seconds, you just have to look around for a cheap place. It's possible, but it will be a little rough. You could even afford to live here if you wanted to with some frugal budgeting.

I've lived in NYC for 5 years after college on $30k a year, it can be done.

>With a Census-estimated population of 7,838,722 in 2015, constituting nearly 40% of the state's population,[7][8][9][10][11] Long Island is the most populated island in any U.S. state or territory, and the 18th-most populous island in the world (ahead of Ireland, Jamaica, and Hokkaidō). Its population density is 5,595.1 inhabitants per square mile (2,160.3/km2). If Long Island geographically constituted an independent metropolitan statistical area, it would rank fourth most populous in the United States; while if it were a U.S. state, Long Island would rank 13th in population and first in population density.

>>
>>77587952
Oregon > Delaware > NYC

If you're making $40k, that is. NYC should really be out of the question at that salary. Oregon isn't cheap either but it isn't New York. Delaware is probably real cheap and real boring. If you just don't really care, you could go there and save some money, but I think Oregon is where you'd be most likely to enjoy your life.

Hey burgers, most of the expenditures in NY are rent, right?
Suppose I was a richfag and managed to buy myself an apartment in middowntown, not a penthouse just a nice apartment near midtown.

Delaware is hot garbage.

Friend, stay home. Seriously. If you're going to be making 40k in NYC, you may as well leave your company and work at a takeaway because unless you're living in most parts of London your quality of life will be so much better in the latter scenario. And Delaware, seriously? It's more or less a huge retirement home. Only move to America if you hate the UK or have the opportunity to move to New England, the PNW, Colorado, or Santa Fe. Chances are you're taking your life very much for granted. I'll gladly trade places with you if you wanna live in Seattle tho; got my degree at Warwick and would kill to move back.
>>
>>77588642
Yeah I agree wholeheartedly. I get my space for free but I'm a decent ways outside of downtown. This is Seattle, by the way. I bet NYC is worse as far as that. Then again, though, it's easy not to drive there.

I live there right now! It's a pretty nice place, probably one of the better places you can live in terms of well-roundedness, and there are thousands of jobs rolling in within the next few years. The only problem is that the cost of living is skyrocketing and the place has basically turned into Silicon Valley 2.0 in terms of living expenses. The culture is dying as well due to the high volume of California transplants responsible for the other aspects of the ruination of Seattle. Then again, this is true of every half-'cool' american city. I would say that there are better options, but they're running out pretty fast.

Also, do you know what opened up in place of the Willoughby? I used to go there every weekend for karaoke.

It takes about 3 hrs to get there. Portland is more reckt by the Californian infestation, but that's only because it had more culture to begin with. Still, Portland and Eugene are much better places to live if you can actually find a job. Unfortunately they don't have much unless you're IT or wanna settle for a job that just requires a degree.
