No, at least not in my area. Drinking culture isn't big in Newfoundland and the Maritimes. People here mostly focus on their work and behave themselves. Drinkers are generally looked down on.

Are you thinking of "liqueur"? That's still a spirit but one which has been infused with other flavours and is often sweetened (think Cointreau or Kahlua).
