The Red Army lost even more than the German Army on the Eastern Front. Also we took twice as much prisoners as the Soviets did (7.7 million compared to SU's 3.1 million), a great way to neutralize your enemy without having to take a bullet to the face.. We also had an outstanding air force that decimated Germany's war material machine and we captured the Ruhr. The Soviets may have raised their flag over the capital, but at what cost? The point of war is to win and by winning we mean destroying the enemy's capacity to wage war and by destroying more of the enemy than taking casualties. As General Patton once said "No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making some other poor dumb bastard die for his country."
>>
>>76994867
Yes really
>>
>>76994993
I don't know what you are trying to say. Yes, a lot of Soviets died but that doesn't change the fact that they destroyed almost the entire German army. That Platon quote is totally out of place and you're just typing some nonsense.

Counterattack started once Stalin new America had the Japanese on lock in Asia and was able to shift more divisions to Europe.

Also, Soviet momentum was maintained because Hitler had a "West Above All" mentality after the Allies invaded France. He pulled some of his best troops from the East to focus on the West, thinking that were they to fall he could create a seperate peace.

If it wasn't for American intervention in WWII, Europe would be completely conquered by Russians
>>
>>76999524
No.
>>
>>76999898

Youre basing your WW2 assumption on Germany facing a divided front. Which isn't right.

Because if America had not entered there would be two significant differences:

1) Germany's eastern front would be a lot stronger

2) Russia would not have their own eastern front freed up so readily as Japan would not have been checked by the American entry

The effect of 2) is drastic, because a large part of the defense of Stalingrad and the subsequent offensive depended on their eastern, Siberian reserves - who as it happened were well equipped for fighting in the cold.
>>
>>76999898

Also, the American entry in WW1 wasnt necessary at all, although it did shorten the war greatly by prompting the Germans to make a final desperate ground offensive in anticipation of the arrival of the Americans.

Germany could already forseeably be said to have been defeated by the time their unrestricted submarine warfare had proven incapable of starving Britain; their last hope of turning the tides. The British fleet was simply superior. The sinking of the lusitania which brought the Americans into the war did not change the fates for Germany by the time it happened. More than half the world was against them; and their allies had all signed separate armistice agreements

>is not the guy who insulted the french ?
I don't think so. Perhaps you're thinking of someone else. He visited France numerous times in his life and none of his experiences seem to indicate anything negative.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_S._Patton

1912
>Following the 1912 Olympics, Patton traveled to Saumur, France, where he learned fencing techniques from Adjutant Charles Cléry, a French "master of arms" and instructor of fencing at the cavalry school there.[32]
>Patton then returned to Saumur to learn advanced techniques before bringing his skills to the Mounted Service School at Fort Riley, Kansas, where he would be both a student and a fencing instructor.

WWI
>He left Paris and reported to the French Army's tank training school at Champlieu near Orrouy, where he drove a Renault FT light tank.
>On the way back to Paris, he visited the Renault factory to observe the tanks being manufactured.
>He received the first ten tanks on March 23, 1918 at the Tank School at Bourg, a small village close to Langres, Haute-Marne département. The only US soldier with tank-driving experience, Patton personally backed seven of the tanks off the train.

WWII
>Other Allied commanders were more impressed, the Free French in particular. General Henri Giraud was incredulous when he heard of Patton's dismissal by Eisenhower in late 1945, and invited him to Paris to be decorated by President Charles de Gaulle at a state banquet. At the banquet, President de Gaulle gave a speech placing Patton's achievements alongside those of Napoleon.[227]

>From the onset of WWI, American sympathy was largely on the side of the Entente. Most Americans saw Britain and France as the champions of liberalism in Europe while the popular stereotype of Germans was that of a jack-booted martinet in a spiked helmet. German authoritarianism and militarism was widely disliked among Americans, and although both the Entente and Central Powers engaged in propaganda initiatives in the US, the latter was singularly unsuccessful. Pro-German sympathy mostly came from Irish-Americans who cheered on the enemy of Great Britain, and German-Americans, many of whom had emigrated only physically.

>In August 1915, a German agent accidentally left his briefcase on a railroad car in New York City, which was recovered by a Secret Service agent and found to contain documents describing sabotage efforts on American industry. Around the same time, a munitions plant in New Jersey was gutted by an explosion at a loss of $22 million.
>>
>>77002727
>Without the Anglos they would be speaking German right now,
fucking anglos.
we'd have better living standards now if were Germans' slaves
>>
>Anglo-US relations during the war did not go entirely smoothly, there was friction over Britain's blockade of Germany. Soon after the start of hostilities in 1914, the British declared the entire North Sea a war zone and began mining it heavily. Neutral ships entering this area were liable to be stopped and searched by the Royal Navy for contraband, which was an extremely elastic definition that could include things like cotton and food items. This cut into American business and there were cries of protest from farmers and manufacturers.

>The British would force American shipping to turn off the high seas and stop in their ports for inspection. Once there, Royal Navy agents would take their time searching the ship's contents, sometimes using X-ray machines, to check for contraband. This action went against the usual principles of international law and freedom of the seas, although London paid for most of the confiscated cargoes.
>>
>London also arbitrarily expanded the doctrine of continuous voyage as interpreted by the US during the Civil War. Neutral European states such as Denmark and the Netherlands began buying large quantities of goods which they had had little interest in before, for example imports of lard from the US to Denmark, previously almost zero, shot up overnight to 22 million pounds. Naturally, some of it managed to find its way into Germany. As such, Britain limited imports to prewar quantities and confiscated or diverted the rest. Once again, American protests were sounded, but London agreed to compensate them.

>The United States had a quite formidable navy by 1914 and Washington could have sent armed escorts to protect shipping if necessary, this would have likely caused Britain to back down. After all, the British relied heavily on American imports to sustain their war effort and could not afford to alienate the US. However, since overall public sympathy was on the side of the Entente, Washington wished to keep positive relations going with London. Aside from that, German unrestricted submarine warfare was far more shocking and offensive to Americans.

It's what people say who don't know much about the war. All they know are the phrases "Maginot Line" and "flank'd". It's the last bits of collective memory that remain from the older WWII propaganda reels, which are biased but more accurate in many respects than what is produced now in the US.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR1fP8TvM-k

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divide_and_Conquer_(film)

>The film's story of France begins in 1914 at the Battle of the Marne. The offensive-minded spirit of French general Ferdinand Foch is emphasized: "My right is driven in, my center is giving way, the situation is excellent, I attack!" (the original in French is displayed on-screen). The film then goes on to describe the defensive orientation of 1930s France, exemplified by the Maginot Line. This is explained as being primarily due to the 6 million casualties which France suffered in World War I, but also due to factors including Nazi fifth column activities, political corruption and greedy vested interests.
>>
>>77001135

WW1 yeah for sure. Germany was a goner.

WW2.. harder to say. Russia would definetely have a much harder time that's for sure.

As to the overall war.. Its really hard to tell since it's another feature of America missing the war is that the allied invasion of sicily would probably not have been feasible. And it's hard to get a picture of how Italy would have an impact if the Allies didn't liberate them from Mussolini's dictatorship.

Italians sadly get the worst of it since Allied propaganda and accounts were deliberately construed to make Italy look like a joke. They were after all the origin of the fascism in Naxi Germany and Hitler had some fantasy notion that they were the descendants of ancient Romans which is what he modeled the Third Reich on.

On top of that, the early German accounts of Italy were at first seemingly inflated, but turned sharply around to remember them as worthless, lazy cowards. The problem was that the Italian King surrendered on behalf of Italy and so the Germans who fought and survived the war were extremely bitter and felt deeply betrayed by their former comrades. Even Hitler would blame his defeat on the Italians being a drain on Germany. But this was just Hitler being Hitler. Still , that's all we're left to go on since nobody can be bothered to read Italian lol.

In all likelihood the Italians were a reasonable fighting force. So if they were left in the war fighting alongside Germany.. Well. Who knows.

People back then thought a little differently from us.

Back then surrendering under any circumstance was a very disgraceful thing.

But thanks to France, we now know surrendering without a fight is perfectly normal. Oui, c'est la vie

I'm not saying I disagree with France.

With the handicap of hindsight, I could it would have been possible to hold out.

The British had a small expeditionary force on their way. It wouldn't have done much by itself to relieve the besieged city, but the Germans had no way of knowing and would have to reconsider their position and strategy nonetheless by the arrival of the British troops.

Hitler was very cautious not to make any risky moves in the early years without full knowledge of the situation. I base his strategy off his later decisions not to pursue the cornered British as they were fleeing back to England.

Moreover the politician at least were more fearful than tactical in their deliberations. Would you think Germany invaded France to conquer ash and ruin?

This carpet bombing cannot keep up. All it served to do was intimidate the politicians and it did. Had they a stiffer upper lip, they could have just put up with it like the British.

You can't help but note: a LOT of the French everything - military, infrastructure, whatever - was still intact at the point of their surrender.

Then of course, had I been there at the time id probably just have been as scared out of my wits as they were.

assuming I was French

I'm sure that Russia would've totally won a two front war against Japan and Germany. I'm sure it would've defeated the Japanese navy. I'm sure that the mighty Russian strategic aviation would've been able to bomb the German industry to ruins. I'm sure that Russia would've won Kursk with those extra German divisions that were sent to fight the Allies in Italy present. I'm sure that Russia would've fared well without Lend-Lease. Oh wait.

Hitler was actually a British/Jewish plant with the sole intention of furthering the grip of the elite Jews on global governments and banking. The end goal was basically to make anti-semitism a crime so that nobody would stand in their way when they decided to form the EU as a test for their eventual globalist apocalypse.

They weaken countries using multiculturalism (specifically muslim) and crashing currencies/markets (see George Soros). The second world war was also a way for them to establish the state of Israel. Think about it, it makes complete sense. They are also pushing open borders/leftist propaganda onto young westerners using media and pop culture. They target this audience because they know that the more left and "liberal" the country is in the future the more open they are to their eventual globalist demise.

I stand corrected. It undeniably served as a strong catalyst however. Arguably the strongest reason they had, despite how weak it is. The lusitania was a military target actually only according to Germany's definition (which nobody else subscribed to), even then I can hardly understand how some dumb boat getting sunk in the middle of nobody cares could very much relate to the average person. People express the opinions all the time in History. Doesn't mean they're right. Yeah, he was the commander, but he also had an obligation to be polite/gracious.

If we took people's word for it without examining the facts we're just going to assume the Italians were all just a bunch of cry babies who their subordinate German commanders had to prop up entirely throughout. It's really unfair to them.

Even now anons just talk in terms of "if x happened would Germany have won the war". What about Italy? Everyone brushes them off as inconsequential based on some consensus that they were truly in fact as worthless as the accounts claim them to be. And you can imagine why the italian politicians that sold them out in the first place might be all too willing to go along with the Allied official narrative which had no reason to change. Bastards.

>The lusitania was a military target actually only according to Germany's definition (which nobody else subscribed to)
Why? It transported ammunition and was therefore a military target. That the Brits thought putting civilians on it was a good idea to stop the Germans from torpedoing it is on them, not germany.

http://archive.archaeology.org/0901/trenches/lusitania.html
>Ever since the ship went down, there have been suspicions that Lusitania was carrying live munitions. Under the rules of war, that would have made the liner a legitimate target, as the Germans maintained at the time.
>"Further research needs to be conducted, but if the discovered ammunition was found in an area where cargo was not known to be stored on board, it strongly supports the argument that the Lusitania was functioning as more than a passenger liner,"
>"The charge that the Lusitania was carrying war materiel is valid," says Bemis. "She was a legitimate target for the German submarine."
>>
>>77014033

In fact, in my opinion, Italy never "surrendered" just so they could "join the winning side". It is such a load of rubbish and entirely unfair to them. What happened is the story of Italy's Civil War. Their men fought all the way and weren't just "rescued" by some feckless American teenagers came in to run the clown Mussolini out of town. A mere footnote, stopover before going on to the main event with Hitler. No, obviously the Italians would have been the ones fighting the hardest for their freedom. But now we'll scarcely get to know what even happened at all because it's all buried thick under a load of allied propaganda bullshit and German trash talk plus the fact of nobody possessing the apparentlh extremely rare ability to be able to give a crap about those looney clowns anyway.

Hitler wouldn't have liked this!! People should respect Hitler's wishes to exalt the great Roman descebdants!! And I think Polska should be the ones to deal with the pizza twirlers to find out what happened as reparations for starting the war to begin with. They're used to living in a third world country anyway.
>>
>>77014744

Well, I maintain they certainly wouldn't have agreed to Germany saying so. (even though it is true. and they probably knew)

So as a driving catalyst for American entry into the war, it's still a valid inference imo.

They did not actually want to prevent the torpedoing.
The #1 goal of Britain in both world wars was always to get the US involved on their side.
If a couple thousand civilians needed to die to serve for effective propaganda that didn't matter.
The Brits actually mined the remains of the Lusitania after it was sunk to make sure people wouldn't discover proofs of the ammunition transported on it and how they tricked the US into going to war.
Britain really is a most perfidious entity
>>
>>77015598

Well, they admitted after the war. Means, categorically, they were in denial during the war, which was when it mattered in influencing the American entry into the war.

What I'm trying to say here is: the event of [the sinking of the lusitania by Germany] was a direct catalyst to [the American entry into the war] based on whatever their notions or beliefs over what that dumb boat carrying American puppies and kittens or whatever contained.

If the acknowledged that it was simply a fair target, then obviously there'd be no case left for the war.

Not least because without the lusitania kittens drowning story, it's simply going to be vvery hard for cure pro-war canp to convince very loud and angry mobs of little that America should enter the damnable war on the basis of : "we should do the right thing, a-yup! "
