usually not, some teachers are pretty chill about it if youre a good student
i was a solid A/B student and grasped material easily most of the time, so once an example or two was covered, if the teach went on to different examples or methods to execute a formula or whatever, (seriously how many times can we go over these fucking graphs, man?!) id whip out my phone and browse the news and stuff
some teachers take it as a sign of disrespect and wont allow it at all
but usually if you respect the teacher and the class you can get away with it pretty solid
