I've posted this before but I want more input
should I learn farsi as an american
I could get a government job probably
I want to learn spanish too but my friend is learning russian which is another "critical language" like farsi and if I learn spanish he'll be better than me because spanish speakers are dime a dozen here. I want to compete.
as far as other things go I think iran is pretty cool and I can understand the motivations behind the current government and I like how arabic script looks. farsi has a shit ton more speakers than I thought too.

If you can get a job in it go ahead. Keep in mind though, it's a tough language

this is one of the other things I'm considering
I'm a student and could definitely take like 45 mins a day but not that much more, and it probably needs more than that. my uni doesn't offer it. it does offer arabic but I wouldn't want that because if the non-mutually-intelligible dialects

Both russian and farsi are important anon but u seem to have a personal and natural inclination towards farsi. So i suggest u go ahead with that since it interests u more.

Farsi? Prob the easiest one among three major MENA languages (Arabic, Turkish, Farsi) because it's Indo European

Hmmm most Universities lectures on languages go on for at least 4-5 hours per week. 45 minutes every day would be doable. Assuming you still add studying and practicing the language as well.

I'm saying like 45 mins to an hour total a day for study/practice/flash cards/etc. maybe alternating days or something.

It would probably take extra time then. Definitley practice outside with a speaker somehow and watch some Farsi media once in awhile
You would be recruited to the military to get shipped to Afghanistan. Is that something you'd want to do with your life?

there's plenty of civilian translating jobs and shit

Military job isn't that bad. After serving in military for certain amount of time, it is much easier to become a civil officer which gives decent pension and benefits.

Not worth the threat of death or PTSD
