As a Jatt, I only feel a kinship with Pashtun. Jatts were the plains guys and Pashtun/Pukhtoon were from the hills, but both had a badass martial culture. Jatts have clans, Pashtuns have tribes.

Both were hard as fuck to conquer, and the hardest foes the Sikh Empire faced was from the Pashtun tribes.

Looking up the Pashtunwali, there were a lot of things that I could relate to.

Well Afghan is literally the name of the ethnicity also known as Pashtuns.
Let me explain it this way. Pashtuns in their own language call themselves Pashtuns (or Pakhtuns depending on the accent).

Our South Western cousins (Iranians and Baluchis) named as Afghans (the word deriving from the term 'the people over the other side of the mountain).

Our Eastern Neighbors called us Pathans. (confusing us with the Parthians who used to raid villages for gold and ladies), since we had fairly similar features, when the general indian population was properly introduced to the Pashtuns, they assumed we were just Parthians, the terminology was bastardized to Pathan then. Hence the 3 names,

Like Uzbekistan is named so because of its native Uzbek population, Tajikistan for the Tajiks, Afghanistan is also named for Afghans (being 60%).
