Myanmar was colonized by Britain, Thailand is one of the few areas of the world to not have been colonized by Europe, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia were all colonized by France.

I'm not sure about modern relationships but Southern Vietnam used to be part of Cambodia and another kingdom called Champa, while Thailand and Myanmar usually fought between each other.

Doesn't matter, I just say Burma because it takes less time to type it. But I call the country myanmar, since it's the union of myanmar, Burma is like the juggernaut in the union tho, so you could call it Burma as well and I guess you could call the minorities Burmese, I'm a minority in Burma, but I just call myself Burmese.
