What's the history behind your countries national anthem?
The Star Spangle Banner was originally written in 1814, during the War of 1812. The author of the song was an American citizen who was sent to a British ship to secure the release of some U.S. soldiers. While they were discussing the British decided to attack Boston, and they took the guy prisoner, despite him being their on neutral terms! (That would be a war crime in today's world.) The guy viewed the attack by the British, and noticed how the flag of the U.S. never fell during the battle, and the fact that the U.S. won the battle led to him writing the song.
Also, British prison ships had horrific conditions in this time period, this isn't necessarily relevant but still. They'd be comparable to concentration camps in WW2, disease rampant, hard labor, etc.
