Just walked passed my eight year old son playing minecraft and speaking fluent english with his team and it hit me.. are anglos retarded for not beeing able to learn other languages when even my eight year old son can do it?
>>
>>75891422
Short answer: yes

Long answer: yes yes
>>
>>75891422
No, it's just that they don't have to learn any other language, they don't need to, that's the point of having your language as lingua franca moron
>>
>>75891484
>don't have to

They should, every language sees the world in a unique way. I think this lack of other perspectives explains why monolingual anglos are the worst spergs abf autists of this site.
>>
>>75891422
Why should they learn Norwegian if chance of picking Norwegian-speaking person in any video game is extremely low? It's actually your son who HAVE to interact with them, not they.
>>
>>75891422
There is simply no practical impetus for native English speakers to learn something else. Lord knows we've tried.
>>
But could your son learn Danish?
>>
>>75891521
This is true. It's all about perspective and i'd say the language is the key to other cultures.

>>
We don't learn because we don't need to. Most people in English speaking countries learn other languages for fun or because they plan on living in another country. Meanwhile, you have been surrounded by English language media from birth.
>>
>>75891605
>Lord knows we've tried.
You know, I cannot blame British or American people for not learning foreign language even though many Americans I know are actually trying to speak Spanish and Chinese.

But you... You failed to learn YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE while being independent from hateful Anglos. Don't try to put yourself in the same line with them. You have no excuse for yourself.
>>
>>75891422

You have much much more exposure to English than we do to your shitty languages
>>
>>75891664
It's a tragedy to begin with, but the fact that they fail to enforce their native tonque back to power is just miserable.

because that will be the second language of yruope

>>
Im not suggesting learning norwegian. I was thinking more of americans in southern states who struggle to learn spanish for example
>>
>>75891664
This is how you learn that ordinary people will take what they perceive to be the easiest path. Learning a language is hard, therefore they will express their partriotism through a different path and get all uppity when you tell them they should speak Irish.
>>
>>75891521
Anglo flags are the least spergy on this site by far

There's only one problem with that as concerns native English speakers.

lool USA has many regions where they cant even speak english...and growing!

I've seen it for myself that latino languages are overtaking english in USA

I give it 20 more years before spanish become a majority spoken languages in north amerika

>>75891722
you're lucky finland was 'only' ruled by sweden and russia. Had it been britain you probably wouldn't speak yours either
>>
>>75891521
Never considered this.

Anglos tend to be offended by things all the time, like you say something in spanish and they translate it and get butthurt about it because it just doesn't have the same meaning.

They're basically just dialects. He doesn't need to speak the languages, as they understand each other enough.

Just like I don't need to learn Flemish in the Netherlands, as I can understand them anyway.

Russia has been much more effective at eradicating languages and cultures.

God knows they tried.
>>
>>75891733
It's never going to happen. US cultural power and economic power are so strong that even in strong muh heritage tier Hispanic families, Spanish is gone within a generation. I grew up around plenty of second-generation chicanos who couldn't speak a lick of Spanish and only really understood it when spoken by family members.

That's why you get stupid shit like Latinx or SJW chicanos trying to remove gender from the Spanish language.
>>
USA is a dying empire, literally undergoing a cultural geopolitical change, drastically, just like the roman empire did.

there is no stopping it
>>
>>75891957
>SJW chicanos trying to remove gender from the Spanish language.
I've always wondered if Spanish language would still work if they all their gender nouns are removed. Might make it so easy to learn it
>>
>>75891422
...DON'T LET HIM PALY WITH THE COMPUTER!!!

WHAT YOU WANNA DO IS PUTTING HIM IN A MILITARY COLLEGE WHERE HE WILL GROW AS A MAN WITH BALLS!!!!

This
>>75891930

But i tend to change certain words when im in Sweden or Denmark so that they unterstand me easier
>>
>>75892020
It actually turns it into something of a confusing mess. Gender isn't something you can just take out of a language without the surrounding language also changing.

English used to have gendered nouns (actually it had a full case system like most European languages) but that's long gone and language still written that way is nearly incomprehensible to a modern English speaker.
>>
>>75892039

>>
>>75891422
Yes.
>>
>>75892033

I make him chop wood with me every other week at the cabbin thats good enough. I think it is very important to be computer savvy this day and age and i don't get why other parents are so against this. I'm even enrolling him in coding class this fall.
>>
>>75892234
If he's eight, it'll be a waste of time. Kids don't undergo the kind of brain development necessary for programming until around age 12.
>>
>>75892295
Learning to program is learning a language. Like literally, it's a language.
If a kid can read and write, it can learn to program.
>>
>>75891521
How do you explain that brits aren't "spergy" then? it's really just the americans
>>

Like the brit says: >>75892348

programming is like learning a language. They've even started trying out some basic coding games in kindergarden with great results

I didn't realize Americans were the only native English speakers.

Wow, you Yuros sure are smart!
>>
>>75892348
That is not even remotely true. Programming is an exercise in creating useful abstractions. Being able to do this properly isn't something that's possible with kids younger than 11 or 12, and it's a waste of time trying to teach them.

Also, programming is not just about 'learning a language.' That's literally the most retarded shit I've heard on /int/ in a long time.

Basically, if you're not old enough to be able to comfortably comprehend elementary algebra, then I'd hazard that you're simply not ready to actually learn programming.

t. software engineer and volunteer teacher at a coding camp for kids
>>
>>75892234
Your kid is going to turn out gay
>>
>>75892515
>t. software engineer

That says enough. You make programming look like something difficult. but with the basics you don't need to learn difficult algebra and shit.
Kids can learn to program, but sending them straight into C is of course not the way to do it.
It like giving a 5 y/o a quantum science book.

when you people come to social media and forum sites you all speak English. There's really no point. Very few languages are considered important to learn. There's as much value in learning Korean here than there is German

I wouldn't vall my Spanish fluent, but it's good enough to manage in Mexico. Most of Spain speaks surprisingly bad English, so it was handy on a few occasions there. I have a decent handle on the basic parts of speech and sentence structure, but idioms fly over my head and I have no useful understanding of contemporary slang.

But that's all I really need.

I think it really comes down to how much of the wider world you want to experience. I can experience most of what I want because my OK Spanish and broken Portuguese give me what is required to do so. Nearly every other place already has readily available English speakers everywhere. Any attempt to learn more would simply be a hobby endeavor.
>>
>>75891422

No, our education system undervalues languages. We spend 1 hour a week from ages 12-14 learning a language and then we are allowed to drop it.

You can't learn shit in ~36 hours a year

It's how I plan to learn German super fast once my scedule clears up.
Books, music, movies, games, internet, it's all going to be in nazi this summer.
I will do what 5 years in school failed in one summer.

That's because for Americans that actually have Spanish clients or work a lot with Spanish natives, they DO know the language.

It's not necessary for the rest of us to know it fluently because English the the global lingua franca and you're just jealous
>>
>>75897272
well that too, because zero motivation. i was seriously motivated (somehow) to learn french already as an adult after college. i made good progress and manage to keep up for maybe 2-3 years. then of course lost most of it because there were zero opportunities to practice it and i got tired of reading boring french news. the truth is most of the interesting web content out there is in english.
