Tricky question.
I wouldn't want to fight in a war against terrorist groups, enemy combatants like similar to Al Qaeda or Viet Cong would be out of the question.
Geographically the United States doesn't have an enemy who could invade us without being intercepted en route. Most of the major wars the US have been in are fought in different countries far away from the homeland. That means that a war that the US would be in would be on foreign soil.
The real question for Americans would be "What country would you be willing to die for?"
Ultimately I'd wait it out to see how badly they really need the extra soldiers if it is a confined or localized conflict (just between 2-3 countries).
If it is a World War, I would join up in an instant. I'd like to be part of something as historically important as that.
