People don't often use the term "African American" in day to day talk. Usually just "black" is used.

When you say black you just refer to their skin colour, that's it. Nothing inherently wrong with it

When you say African American in a way you point out that their ancestors were slaves, which is kinda weird to do everytime you refer to a black person

I was about to type out basically the same thing. White people are just called white. African-American makes them sound like they were just pulled off a boat. They're black for fuck's sake, they've been in this country longer than most whites.

Next to African-American I have rarely heard the term Irish-American and Italian-American, but never heard things like German-American, French-American British-American, only Prussian-American on /int/ once kek
