The South African flag changed in the 1920s I think, the 1994 one is just the RSA flag.

Most of those changes happened after independence from England, Canada and the Solomon Islands is the only exception I can see, along with PNG but their flag is their first flag

I'll vote in favour of becoming a republic when the time comes for that, but I don't have a problem with the union jack being on the flag when we're still a dominion of the British Empire.

I think we should have gotten a flag without the Union Jack when the colonies federated and formed a single nation, but most Australians considered themselves British at that point. Attitudes only started changing with the first World War, and now the flag has been around for so long that the vast majority of people don't want to change it without reason since it's become ingrained.
