I've always been a bit of an Americaphile (Ameriphile? There really needs to be a word for this). In fact, my dream is to one day move to America (though I've heard it's very difficult).
My earliest memories consist of distinctly American culture, like my Dad (of Canadian extraction, himself) playing me blues music and Ry Cooder singing old songs like "Vigilante Man." I grew up watching movies from the golden age of Hollywood and, when I got older, I gravitated towards American literature and studied American politics at University.
I basically find your country fascinating. There's a youthfulness and vibrancy to American culture and history. My native Europe feels like a place suffocating under the weight of oppressive tradition, where the United States is always in the process of reinventing, of perfecting itself. It's a country in a constant state of energetic flux.
I love steeping myself in US history, with its larger-than-life cast of heroes and villains. Your culture and folklore resonate with me a lot more than my own.
I'm a very political person, and I always believed very strongly in Thomas Paine's maxim that "The cause of America is in a great measure the cause of all mankind." America is the reason that we in Europe enjoy our liberty and US values are values we should all strive to emulate.
My question is; do you, as Americans, find this kind of thing weird? A foreigner expressing such deep admiration and identification with your country? Is it flattering instead? I've always been curious what the reaction would be to a Spaniard crossing the pond and expressing patriotism for a land he wasn't born in.

I am actually quite flattered by it. It makes me happy, because usually Europeans on this website, and in general, shit on the United States. We've been in quite the decline since 2001. The Government doesn't really respects our rights, especially the ones laid out in the First, Second and Fourth Amendments. I hope for a savior or for a Second American Revolution. But, you are obviously welcome to come here. You speak English already, so you have that part of gaining citizenship down.

>do you, as Americans, find this kind of thing weird? A foreigner expressing such deep admiration and identification with your country?
Not really. America is pretty great (in theory at the very least).
>Is it flattering instead?
A little, but not really. I take no personal credit for my country being the way it is. I do enjoy it compared to the usual disdain for America and Americans that you usually find on online, though.
>I've always been curious what the reaction would be to a Spaniard crossing the pond and expressing patriotism for a land he wasn't born in.
Most Americans love an immigrant that clearly loves and admires America.

nobody really finds it weird. yuros are a bunch of ameriboos today and its too common to be realized. and americans are glad about it unless you are a 3rd world shitter or a musilm. enjoy your nu-yuro life, go immigrate to america.
>>
I feel like euros just can't comprehend the size and cultural differences within the US. You say you love "america" but what does that even mean? If you ask someone that question in Idaho, NYC, or Miami you will get wildly different answers. America isn't some hive mind collective, certain parts of the country as different as Madrid is from Moscow.

But anyway no one will care you are from Spain, until you lose your accent you will always just be yet another foreigner.
>>
bump a nice thread about america for once
>>
Americans love an immigrant who wants to be an American rather than a mooch. The reason Hispanics are so hated is because a shitload are here illegally and have this "Nyah nyah, we're going to steal your shit gringo" mentality that makes us want to bulldoze them into a ditch. The only reason that hasn't happened is because one particular political party gets votes from them. Our issues with Muslims are also obvious. Other than that we're happy to take anyone.
>>
the only thing more corny than american patriotism is ameriboos that never even put a feet in USA

like the rest of the Americans in this thread, I also love foreigners who love America. They're incredibly endearing. One of my best friends is a Jap who is more patriotic than most of my friends. Before he left the country (foreign exchange student) we threw him an American-themed party
>>
>>75199884
I think Japanese students realize they're getting the social contact here that they lack back home, because I know someone who was the exact same way. This guy Yuki came over and stayed through college then practically wept when he had to go back home. He barely spoke English his first year here, but by the end he was doing shots and shooting guns with the rest of us. All he had waiting on him was a minuscule apartment and a soulless job
>>
>>75200203

Ha, that was pretty much Kenya's exact complaint. He fucking hated the Jap 14 hours a day of working your ass off even if he had a good job. He spent Christmas with my family two years in a row because he wanted to experience "real, American Christmas" (even though we live in fucking Florida) and routinely got smashed and stoned with my crew of college degenerates. I made sure that he got every uniquely American experience he could. My only regret is that before he left he wasn't able to shoot a gun.
>>
>>75199884
This happened with a mexican immigrant when I was in high school. He really liked nerdy stuff like Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, etc. He was on student visa and was going to be deported a week before high school graduation. They managed to successfully petition to stay another few weeks and we threw a star wars themed party before he had to go back.

As an American, I can't care about this shit that I live in.

Sorta? Not in a direct way, more like a mutual "fuk yea, murika"

the US is based on a culture, republicanism (not the republican party, but the culture of the republic, the one you can see both in france and poland in europe)
and freedom, America it's a way of life, that's why anyone can feel American
