Actually, something interesting is that most European towns and cities had an English name at some point that was different from it's original (e.g. Spires), but most are falling out of favor. So I'm sure if you look at old enough mauscripts you'll find strange names for Dunkirk and Berlin even though nowadays everyone just calls them by their original name.
