Why didn't Australia build any railways?
We here in the US used the Chinese to build railways from East to West.
There's a main core of railway, north to south and east to west, and up the east coast. But I guess it's more economical to use these trucks then to build a new railway to every new mine. Mining here is done in very remote areas and a lot of what these road trains carry is ore. Obviously not that one, but yeah, maybe it's supplying supermarkets in small outback towns away from the rail system.

We've got lots of railways, most of the ones on the west coast are fully robotic, no drivers
Trucks are just mostly for the point-point stuff and ridiculously isolated areas where there isn't any rail

After 2020 about. I work in an company that develops that technology what is needed for self driving cars
Was never possible, each state prior to Federation in 1901 was governed as if it were its own independent nation.
Even to this day, the rail lines between NSW and Victoria dont meet, it was bridged between but you still need to change lines.
When Federation occured in 1901 the main priority was to consolidate the armed forces, then WW I broke out, then the depression, then WW II and so forth.
You can see from this why we're lacking a uniform train like.

Pretty interesting to be honest. Any other things in Australia that aren't integrated because of this?

Lot of the early lines where put in by private companies too, so they just made whatever they wanted to transport ore, coal, cane, wheat etc
Still quite a few private lines around now, lot became state owned though

Rest assured they were paid. I'd wager even more than the freedmen

Mostly just train networks on the East coast, you have the Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin which is and was the lifeline of SA/NT and Central Aus for a long time, its just easier to use trucks/road trains to deliver goods>>75022533

I thought they changed the track gauges after federation to a national standard
